welcome back to Dan's disc golf round one of How the West Was Won nice oh it doesn't okay been pretty good about the game Joe Revere and Joe Freeman are here highest rated people I'm trying not to give myself crazy expectation just one of cash I want to play some solid round I know that I have the ability to score really hot at these courses just about knocking in my head and today I'm Really Gonna focus on having always positive energy even like if I do something really bad which is not something that I typically like to do but I'm going to try to always like just get out of my head get to the next shot and just not even think about anything except for the shot couple bag updates real fast I only have two piers in the bag one is an old putting cure that's my throwing one kind of hyzer flip up straightish guy or flippy guy and then this Gold Line Pier that you guys saw last week my putting Putters the only other real changes are I lost there's snorkel heat so new one went in the bag and you guys saw that I lost my echo Destroyer surprisingly I didn't put another Jessica East in the back this is just another purple Echo Destroyer 172 so the biggest weight that I have I don't know why but I was throwing like four of them yesterday trying to figure out which one I wanted and this was my favorite so a little bit of wind out there today let's go get it let's hopefully have enjoy playing disc golf tournament in Colorado for like or five months all right stepping up to Hole number one here there's actually not a good practice area so I hadn't actually thrown any shots today I just had done some practice putting but stepping up to Hole number one it's about 360 to 370 feet T sign set 370 probably plays a bit shorter there's a slight headwind with a right to left so I throw my stable Destroyer actually end up slightly early releasing it and there is OB left I get a big flare skip luckily I hit the hill before the OB so we should end up being safe with a little bit of a putt to start the round now these putts are always a little bit nervy even if you practice putting at the beginning of the round or at least warmed it up I have about 25 feet in which is kind of a good distance to get your round started I'm fighting from the straddle today and just miss it a little bit left side standing up on that kind of weird berm there makes it a little bit difficult shouldn't be too crazy to start the round and I should be able to clean that up take an early par sucks that I've already lost 100 inside the circle because I'd love to have a couple tournaments this year that are like that but definitely not bad to start out with the par moving into hole number two also real quick shout out to Airline my caddy today as well as her dad who was filming behind the camera and Mamu showed out hole number two is about 380 feet to the basket throwing my echo Star Destroyer because it's a slight tail now and I just put it on some hyzer again a slightly early release but that's why I threw a neutral disc because I knew that I would get the distance right and then kind of see what happened I was afraid of big skip because this one typically skips but it's been very rainy so it sat down right next to the basket and stayed safe also one thing that you're going to quickly notice is in the bottom right hand corner bottom left-hand Corner you're going to see neg one putting I'm starting to think about putting in terms of neutral putting negative and positive putting where it becomes more negative the more Circle one putts I miss and it becomes more positive the more Circle two putts that I make so we're gonna start tracking that a little bit in these rounds as well hole number three is a 318 foot par three I'm throwing my pathfinder because we have to get it on top of that Hill there so I probably wouldn't juice it too much because it probably requires about 330 340 feet of power ended up just parking it again so that's two nice Park shops in a row where we of course have to give the honors to the disc that actually I threw so Pathfinder is going to the basket instead of my Putters so my Putters are feeling a little bit out of it since I had missed the putt on hole number one but I mean hey when I'm parking baskets we're not too mad about things I wasn't able to get a practice round in that I filmed for you guys I actually did a front nine but we ended up putting this video out instead same day of the tournament and that means that I didn't really let you guys know that my game plan this one is run everything for birdie except for hole 17. so hole number four here is 586 foot Par Four and throwing my stable Destroyer because we're teeing off from out of bounds and you have to make sure that you're to the right of the path and so just throw it over that hill on some hyzer end up pumping a really great shot out there leaving me a really simple upshot in with my crystal Flex Zone and if you guys watch the last tournament coverage from last week you know that it cost me about four strokes this disc and kind of not the disc but how I threw it last week so I really put in some work this week to try to learn a little bit better and this one ends up actually Greg on top of that hill over there let me know it actually hit the pole so three Park shops in a row throw in the zone in the basket to go three down through four moving us into hole number five which is an interesting one because it kind of plays opposite of the normal hole at this course it's only 273 feet and it is downhill but you have to take a Mando to the left of that pole that's in the middle of the Fairway out there and there are some branches that kind of creep into the left so it's a pretty tight window I'm deciding to throw my crystal Flex Zone because there's a slight headwind and I put it on hyzer instead of flat because my flat has been slight hyzer which is a fine shot because I wanted my Mist to be down that Hill anyways thought it was really good and I left myself about 15 to 20 feet to the basket except I'm right behind this tree and I'll show you guys in a second but there is absolutely no look from behind here except for one small window and I kind of have to punch something through luckily we're able to connect on that putt taking us to four down through five and I'm really happy about that because that's the Gap that I was going through well number six here is 296 feet with a triple Mando in the middle of the Fairway and so I could throw a Potter hard but instead I decided to throw my origin on just a hyzer flip up line punching through it really hard on the hyzer instead of swooping up on the hyzer trying to get a good grip I ended up throwing exactly the shot that I want to this wound up a little bit short for me in practice when I came here the other day luckily I got the height a little bit more right and I juice it just past the basket I thought it was a lot farther but luckily I'm just about 20 feet and one thing you're going to notice here is I am in line putting for this putt as you can see I'm very nervous about it not necessarily because it's in line because we're able to drill it but I have not been practicing putting for a long time it's one of the things that while I start my road trip I'm going to start practicing significantly and so this round I really tried to make sure that I was putting how I thought would be best for the whole whatever I was confident in instead of being very dogmatic about putting straddle or inline well number seven is 339 feet I'm throwing my honor because it's a slight headwind it's a little bit glidier so it'll push it back to the left ends up getting pretty close to the basket about 25 foot look and this is one where I'm going back to the straddle because like I was saying before I basically just want to do whatever I'm confident in in the moment I don't know why I'll feel the best but I'm going to trust myself and because of that I'd knock in that 25 foot putt which is the putt that I really needed to start my round and feel like I was able to putt again give it a thumbs up to Greg who was filming the card in front of us uh one of my patrons big shout out to him hole number eight is a 515 foot Par Four and throwing a destroya around this manual because you got to get left side just want to put it on hyzer the name of the game at this course is just throwing one angle shots if I don't need to throw two angle shots why would I try to do that it's a short Par Four I could I'm sure I could push another 100 Airway with a really good backhand but why do I do that when I could leave myself this look with a crystal Flex Zone up into the basket over those logs out of my hand I'm really happy with it I've been really happy with how I've been throwing that disc and I smacked the log and just skipped right off of It kind of thought I'd go in would be the craziest eagle ever but it sits me down about 15 20 feet sort of no way closer than that my bad and again we're going back to the inline don't know why just whatever felt good in the moment so I'm definitely going to be practicing both of them because I'm still not super confident with my putting I'm like nervous for every putt that I come to I'm not really thinking any of them are 100 going in but it moves into hole number eight also I just looked at the distance on this course this is a 9045 but of course that's nuts and going into hole nine I started thinking hey I have gotten every single hole except for that Miss on hole number one and hole nine is only 366 to 400-ish feet The Academy Book says 366 the T sign says 400 I'd say it probably plays close to 380 and we do have a slight slight Tailwind so I'm throwing my echo Star Destroyer I thought it was really good because there's Hazard about 45 feet on either side of this basket so I wanted to make sure that I just got a pretty safe shot one up inside the circle another inline putt don't know why from about 18 to 20 feet knocking it down to go eight through nine with just a missed Circle one putt on the first hole needless to say we're executing the game plan and at this point I walk back through that Pavilion someone tells me that I am ahead of Joel Freeman's Pace on the course try to just get that out of my mind and just continue executing the game plan just like on hole number 10 here 611 feet double Mando right by the basket and there's one hard shot that you're gonna have to throw you can either try to clear about 400 feet and get a very tight Landing zone or do what I just did was just throw my ultra very overstable mid-range about 300 feet maybe probably about 250 feet to the top of this hill and then throw a destroyer about 350 feet through that double mando I put this a little bit more hyzer than I really wanted to but it gets a little bit of a skip I thought I'd get even more of a Skip and I thought it was kind of a perfect shot but it leaves me just outside the circle about 38 feet because I ranged it to make sure that it was okay with my card feeling for the win it's a slight tailwind and my step putts were not dropping last tournament at all luckily this is my first this is my first outside the circle of the whole wow that's crazy that's for me I just realized that now as I'm doing this voiceover even though it was a Tailwind I aim for the middle of the basket which I probably should have aimed a little bit higher because it drops in a little low but we made a circle two Putt and this brings us back to neutral putting we're not negative we're not positive putting at this point really happy with that because I haven't missed anything else inside the circle and I made that Circle too as you can see very nervous about it the putts have not been feeling great but they have been going in so let's try to continue that on the longest hole in the course a 963 foot par five kind of a safari hold they just made this hole up really cool hole in my opinion 480 feet down the Fairway there is Amanda that you have to go to the right of so I'm trying to throw a big turnover with my echo Star Destroyer I have not been turning the disc over super well with the nose down I threw that one a little bit nose up I think I'm trying to put it too high and because of that I end up getting phenomenal distance I think I cleared about 425 430 with that shot I thought that I was going to be taking apart because here you can see the Mando is so close and I have to still get around it to the right side I really want to be about a hundred feet to the right of where I'm at so I can get a big second shot in and I can't even run up here because there's so many cacti by my lie that I have to just do a little standstill hyzer with the echo Star Destroyer end up getting a really good shot out of it I'm really really happy with that standstill play I'm going to continue working on that for sure but it leaves me with 360 feet into the basket on a forehand which I know that I have but it's a really specific line so I take my echo Star Destroyer think about flipping it up a little bit and throw it slightly two nose up really solid shot I thought there was a chance here and it started creeping through those branches but it got smacked down if it would have got through all those got lucky or if I would have just thrown in a little more nose down a little lower it would have probably parked it or put me inside a circle one as it is they were probably in the edge of circle two maybe Circle three looking at about a 70 foot putt I'm honestly pretty happy with that bit it leaves me just behind the basket for a tap in par and this is one that I would love to birdie and I'm gonna try to bring obviously tomorrow but for being out of position on that first shot having to throw a Stan saw on the second on an almost thousand foot hole and still giving myself some sort of Birdie look I'm really happy with that and just a drop in par now that does finish my nine in a row birdie stretch which I'm super stoked about at least just doing that and at this point walking to the next t-pad I was having to talk with my caddy and just thinking about I need to make sure that I'm not content with my round there are so many holes left and so many more birdies I know that with my round now I'm still so hot but I want to make sure that I still play well so hole number 12 there's a couple different ways to get there I'm just throwing the pushing hyzer line which kind of stalls and gets back to the left with my honor it's just about 300 feet for some reason the Cat book says 218 is not that but at least me just past the basket with about a 20 25 foot look just snuck it over the rim but I'm really happy to have made that puck gotta get back on the birdie train and it should be easy because hole number 13 is a 554 foot Par Four which is a pretty easy par for as long as you just get your drive to the left there's a really open look if you push anywhere from 380 to 450 you have a pretty open look towards the basket so I'm taking my echo Star Destroyer which I've been pumping today and just rip it on a hyzer now there might have been just a pretty strong right to left didn't seem like there was too much but I ranged how far this disc went I'm still going to claim 399 online but I ranged that to 430 to 440 feet on hyzer which is kind of a little bit insane for me so leaves me with a pretty bad look because it did not push back to the left as much as I wanted so tomorrow I'm just going to stable up and just kind of rip one and I'm throwing a pure here my flippiest pure on a patent-pending anhyzer line as you see I look like I force that a little bit too much instead of trusting the disc to work back to the right and give it the height it probably is just that I haven't worked enough on that shot and I definitely need to continue working on it but it leaves me with a circle 2 look which I want to drop another one of these from about 45 feet unfortunately I honestly under commit because there's a right to left win there it just chains out just to the left side I say chain out but it was a missed putt but it hits the chains so I'm not mad about the two putts that I missed today at both at the chains except for that kind of 80 foot bid which doesn't really count able to make the comebacker from about 15 feet pull it out of the basket let's try to get back on the birdie train and hole number 14 which is another relatively easy par for it as long as you can get off the tee now there is an OB flagged area which is about 480 to 500 feet down the Fairway and I have never even thought about really touching that so I just read my echo star destroy basically as hard as I can there's a headwind left to right slightly so I put on some hyzer knowing it'll flip up and just give me massive distance because if I can get about 150 in I'll be super stoked I was honestly a little bit scared about how close that got to the ob I'm pretty sure I wasn't getting that close but it winds up just about 20 feet short so I might stable up tomorrow or just throw a little bit more on hyzer because I have a crystal Flex in and before the shot I was just talking about Academy like yeah I just got to play darts at the basket because the grass is so thick let's go I think that's right yeah super stoked about that shot another one with that Crystal Flex Zone where I definitely put in the time to learn it and we have absolutely parked another hole for birdie getting back on the birdie train and at this point I talked with my caddy before hole number 15 saying hey I am 11 at this point I want to make sure that I can get to 13 down but I tell her hey we're not gonna think about this again I told you this number now we need to execute the next shot because that was really all that we were trying to do today was just execute the next shot execute the next putt really not trying to think too much about score or anything that's really how I have to do it for the next couple tournaments hole number 15 is a 667 foot part four where you really just want to drive one out there basically to where the distance of those logs in the middle of the Fairway are because that's where the normal basket is for this I actually pushed it back and made it a par four but there's a decent bit of space out to the left kind of where I threw my disc because I didn't want to be pinched behind those things I'm about 240 out from the basket and I was deciding between Zone and Ultra and I decided to go with ultra now this is kind of one of the more poor decisions that I made on the day because I want to throw a big spike hyzer kind of following the grade of the Hill there's a slight headwind but I misreleased it a little bit inside and early it was gonna be all right either way a circle to look either way almost got caught up on those branches but I really should have just thrown it hard in flat at that Hill because it would have faded towards the basket around that tree so that's a good thing to know for next time especially because it won't get taken by the wind because it'll be a little flatter in the air I was ranging it to 37 and just confirming with my card that they agreed that I was able to step put it but it's kind of really weird especially because I can't like stand up fully in this branches so I'm trying to take this a little bit fast and really committed knock down another birdie putt from Circle two and this brings us into positive putting because we've only missed one Circle one and we made two Circle twos and I am so stoked on that shot dropped the mini because I was so excited I guess but that gets me to that 12 that I wanted to be I want one more birdie at least because the whole 17 I'm just playing for par it is so far down there 16 is equalable and then hole 18 is pretty tough as well seeing here we actually missed the drive because this is an eagle holds 860 foot as a par 5. it looked like it was a par four before they changed the caddy book yesterday I threw a massive drive just out of hyzer with my echo star destroy we actually missed that and it leaves me 450 in now for some reason there's a slight headwind I decided to staple up with my destroyer and really throw another poor nose up anhyzer shot I think I should have probably just ripped my Aqua Star Destroyer flat or slight hyzer basically towards that t-pad where all those people are at and just make it fade towards the tree that's right next to the basket because I think today I kind of have that distance at least to give myself a edge of circle one maybe middle of circle two look kind of bid that for the eagle a little bit but just I'm very happy to take an easy birdie at that one this is one that I was planning on getting a birdie anyways and that brings me to my 13 down we missed that front as well because I took it really fast barely snuck it over the rim so that's why I kind of had that really uh not great look but hole number 17 here is 467 feet in the caddy book I heard someone ranged it to 490 but it is down there and it is a slight headwind with a little bit of left to right I'm gonna take my echo star destroyer and this is one where because I've only had this in the bag for literally a day I'm not super confident with it yet in different wins which is probably why I didn't throw it for the second shot on hole number 16. now aerolyn my caddy told me that she thought that I had the distance to get there today and so that actually gave me a little bit of extra confidence instead of just like trying to play it pretty safe to just try to juice it and see if I played a safe shot how far down there I can get and it looks like I got a middle of circle two maybe just as a circle to look but because all these little mozzarella sticks are there I really wanted to take the safeness which was going Anheuser putt over the smaller ones instead of trying to go through any maybe trying to give it a bid which I did really bad been a little bit high on the comeback putt but the par is what I'm trying to take there at this point I haven't checked scores I'm not trying to check scores I know that I'm 13 down that's the score that I wanted but I know that the last one was birdieable by just executing a couple wide angle shots and so we have to go around a nano to the left and we really need about 320 feet of forehand power to get up on top of the hill around that Mando to the left I'm taking my Destroyer my Ricky 2 time and throwing it just on a slightly Hazard line a little mostly flat I was just trying to push the backside OB because there's about only 80 feet to 100 feet of a fairway there you can see the flags to the right there's actually Flags to the left as well and this leaves me 270 into the basket I thought it was a little bit closer actually and so I was gonna go pure but I decided or zoned but I decided to go Envy instead because I wanted to stable up I wanted to throw it over the OB that's to the right and just fade in unfortunately I leave it a little bit high and not quite as right as I wanted to I was a little bit worried that I pushed the OB left but I thought that it was probably safe and at least me with his 25 foot putt to get to 14 down which is my lowest round in the tournament ever when my best rounds ever foreign putt I am so stoked at this point I haven't checked scores yet or I'm about to get there and tell you kind of what it was finally take a sigh of relief and a big old smile let's talk about it I didn't feel like I did anything crazy this round I just executed my game plan and shot my shots and made more Circle two parts than I missed Circle one putts now where that left me was 14 down what's more important than that is I am second in this tournament tied second in this tournament the person who's ahead of me is 15 down this is Joe Revere and if you've played anything in Colorado disc golf or like in this area he's like Masters world champion incredible incredible disc golfer in this area if you beat him you should go into it that's what people have said like you beat him you gone and the person I'm tied with is Joel Freeman you know who's your Freeman is and so to be tied or run back at the 210 30 plus people I honestly am thinking this is a course that if I continue to execute my game plan make my pots there's no reason why I can't go out tomorrow and try to win I'm not going to change anything in my game plan it's just gonna be execute the same one angle shots over and over and over again and stay in the middle of the Fairway stay safe the only questions and the only times that I might actually start to check scores because I'm really going to try to not check scores and just really focus in on the next shot in the next putt which is really what I did well this tournament I think having a caddy like Airline and it's just really helpful for me to be able to decompress with them and talk through my shots and real quick I know I have these hats and some shirts available in my first apparel boxes they're only going to be here this weekend they're going to be gone as of like Monday or Tuesday because I need to ship them out and then leave on my road trip on Tuesday but because I Shot 14 down if you type in -14 as a code at checkout you'll get 14 off my boxes today and then same thing with whatever I score tomorrow wow this is very validating to me for feeling like I have the ability to when I'm playing at the top of my ability as good as I can like nothing insane like I didn't do anything crazy this round I just played safe and executed what I was trying to do if I do that I am executing at the level of a top to a professional because this round was rated 1047 and it didn't feel like I was doing anything crazy I felt like it was a really good round and I had to keep that emotion in check like I'm not saying that like oh this wasn't anything like yeah it was incredible but I didn't do anything incredible I just threw the shots and I had the distance today to to compete the only game plan that might change for me tomorrow is actually playing 16 for Eagle 100 and instead of like being a little timid and playing 17 for birdie both of which I think I can get uh depending on the Wind destroying the right shot and those I'll probably won't check scores until 15 after hole 15 and see okay where I'm at where am I at 16. because I'm gonna I'm gonna try to give these guys a run for their money like why not I'm so ecstatic that I made a lead card in mpo a 10 40 something rated round is nuts and the experience I'm gonna get tomorrow is going to be absolutely invaluable if you want to follow along definitely do it on PDGA live I'm gonna probably try to get the video from Tomorrow up tomorrow as well whether I play well or whether I play poorly but I had no expectations for myself coming in today I just wanted to throw shot by shot and when I do that I don't have expectations it looks like I play this type of disc golf maybe not always and the consistency is gonna have to come but this is very validating for my dream of caching an approacher event to be able to play around like this and not feel like I played out of my mind that's really cool I'm a little speechless from the round I'm gonna like rest up tonight I have like things around the house I need to do just get ready for my road trip but I'm gonna meet Joel Freeman tomorrow we're gonna rip some discs together hopefully I can beat him and Joe Revere um take down my first mpo win but either no matter what happens I'm stoked on the experience and the ability thank you guys so much for following the journey and for everyone who believed in me I appreciate you so much that has helped to push me on for sure sometimes your guys beliefs in me whether you tell me them in public or just in comics or DMs I have high goals for myself and sometimes you guys have expectations and goals that are higher than mine and that helps to make me think maybe I can do that and so today was a great I don't even know what to say honestly I'm so nervous I'm not I'm not though I'm just excited I'm really trying to go in with no expectations because yeah I'm trying to win but it's me versus the course not me versus them if I play the course like I did today and I make my first Circle one pot and I make that 45 I'll come back better I don't mess up that patent pending shot or I have a good drive on the par five there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to shoot 14 15 tomorrow again not that it's going to happen not that it's guaranteed at all and that's the biggest thing of like me not being a touring Pro and wanting to get that level it's that consistency if I can shoot rounds like this all the time then I'm phenomenal like I'm doing Pro but I'm not yet and so maybe at some point I will get there and tomorrow is going to be a good test of that and a good test of what does it feel like to I'm not playing with the lead but to me it feels like I am I've been rambling a little too long I appreciate you guys so much if you've been watching this please go buy my pillow boxes if you'd like they really help to support me uh especially heading out on a tour because I have to get some things in my van fixed and they're pretty expensive I don't like to talk about that too much on the channel but 10 47. I thought in my highest my previous highest round is 1008. I thought it would take forever to get to the point where I'm shooting a 10 20 round and I didn't do anything crazy I just I just played good disc golf I hope this becomes more normal I hope this feeling doesn't I hope it always stays special thank you guys so much for watching I'll see you tomorrow in the next video hopefully you follow pdj live and hopefully I at least Podium but expectations are low let's just have fun playing disc golf okay love you guys bye
