I have my first tournament since the Kansas city-wide open coming up two days from now and I want to take you through practicing and getting ready for that tournament but not the practice round that video will actually be coming out tomorrow but there are some things that you should be doing or at least I see as best practices from a lot of the pros in leading up to your tournament which are basically three stages but it all starts out here in the field well not quite it actually started a couple days ago but for this video it starts in the field this is something that I've seen Paul McBeth talk a decent bit about and it's just going to the field and re-learning your discs built here for an hour today hopefully not even 20 minutes hopefully it's just going to be there and back for this session because what I just did is through every single disc in my bag or not even quite in my bag this that I am thinking about bagging for this weekend for the most part to see three or four-ish things one what all of them do on a stock hyzer shot or whatever my stock shot is for me it's about like 10-ish degrees of hyzer that's the most comfortable shot for me to throw and it seems very repeatable and so in throwing that over and over and over again I'm able to see if there are any discs in my bag that have too much overlap for instance this zone right here which I'm now going to be throwing back to the bag on a forehand just general like not trying to be crazy right now in this zone right here which is another disc that I would forehand but is more overstable than the other Zone and gets more ground action which is why I had only one of them in the bag for a little bit and I think I need both really I can just rip on that one a little bit more but I'm trying to figure out are there any gaps of discs that like like if those two zones in a flippy pure were the only thing I have I needed more straight Putters in the bag more than likely it's also going to depend on the course but we'll figure that out when we get to the course tomorrow and so throwing everything on the same stock shot I can figure out if there are gaps that I need to fill with more discs to go into my bag before I go and practice the course but it seemed like I had everything and I actually had the opposite problem yeah that problem being there were a couple discs for instance my two strikes that I have in the bag that seemed to be too similar and honestly this Envy is a little bit too similar right now to my Pier which was surprising but that one was also in a lake and it was pretty beat in so I'm probably honestly going to snag a second Envy before I go to the course today so we figured out if we have any gaps if we have any overlap so we don't need to take multiples of those discs we just need one because anything that's going to confuse us we don't need for instance I felt like I threw this on the exact same line there's my flippier strike my other strike I like them both but at this elevation they tend to fly a little more similarly and it gives us an approximation of our distances which is not something I'm measuring right now because I don't have a rangefinder but it also shows like what is flying in similar ranges when I hit it at a similar amount I do know that Paul will throw highs or flat anhyzer see what all does this do on all of those different angles that's not something that I'm personally going to be doing today because let's be honest with ourselves most of these Denver courses are pretty much just hyzer fests if he's doing it it's probably a better thing to do than what I'm doing right now but I prefer to do work on the course than in the field so after I throw all these discs back to my bag I'm probably gonna add some discs to the bag back at home before we go to the course take a couple out like the overlapping strikes and then we'll head to a course that is not the course that we're going to be practicing and play in a way that I think will really help our confidence and mental game before my tournament on Saturday the one thing we're not doing though as I'm throwing all these this back is trying to overdo it it's only two days before the tournament I'm really focusing now on my nutrition and hydration also means that the thing that I'm not focusing on right now which is really kind of killing me because I've been thinking so much about it is form work we're just working with what we have keeping that out of our mind because it's not going to help us going into Saturday to be thinking about those all we need to worry about is how to execute the next shot with what my body already knows how to do for instance that cd1 is in the back in the cd-1 landed I really break down my tournament perhaps nowadays especially the more I've been thinking about like Health both physically and mentally into gaining confidence and preparation slash recovery confidence a lot of that comes like from being in the field and feeling like I'm throwing relatively powerfully I have no idea how far that Pharaoh went speaking of it's still way over there because I shanked it on the way back another way that this really helps build my confidence is I know how my discs are flying better but even just this quickly 20-ish minutes 15 minutes of field work is really helpful for me and I would finish it up with some putting if I wasn't going to be doing that later today and I have some really big tips for getting your pot ready especially because so much of that is just confidence but I'm gonna head home now I got a video to finish editing and get up I actually need to fix my shoes unfortunately because it came like unstrapped and then I ripped a strap off which is not good because I love playing in these shoes and then we're going to head on to the course for a prep round not a practice round and also my elbow feels great so let's go foreign part is that was even a recreation because I forgot to turn the camera on air up right through I might have the most unique pair of bibos in the world I think they'll get the job right off the big guns all the butters are going to the top including an extra putter for practicing putting so I want to get a bunch of wraps in an extra Envy this is a prism plasma one which is pretty stable a lot more than this guy I have both my zones I have two Origins one of them has been at crawl two and then another Pathfinder because I realized this one might be slightly more stable than I want up here because we're back at elevation so everything's like that like half tick more stable they were out here at upper battling I think like Junior Nationals is going to be here it's actually at lower which isn't open yet I will be making videos there once it does open because that is going to be my home course so much of disc golf or even just Sports in general is confidence but the point of this round is to get more confident for my practice round and I'm not like questioning my throwing ability once I get to the course to practice I'm just practicing the course knowing that I can throw well that means today we're really just trying to have fun and enjoy ourselves at least I am because these rounds can be tailored to you if you have other ways that you get more confident in your game because when I enjoy throwing I typically am a little more loose and carefree and that translates over to my throws and I throw batter it's just like a positive compounding thing personally especially at a course like Badlands where like I'm honestly just not the biggest fan of it taking just like a straight up scoring round doesn't always make me confident especially if I'm not playing where I expect to be we're gonna play something hi Brandon just do like a Best Shot doubles with myself they're gonna be two different shots it's not like the same shot over and over again it's working on feeling good about the forehands and the backhands trying to double Park most part holes and throwing three shots if like I am throwing a Pathfinder to figure out which Pathfinders I want and then whatever my other shot is similar with my envies et cetera et cetera so let's try to shoot at least double digits playing Best Shot doubles and there are some things that I'm also focusing on besides just like having a Carefree let's be let's have fun kind of round that are a little more tangible tips as well we used it there are a decent bit of courses around me but I like to play a tougher course for this give myself a little bit of a challenge even if I am making it easier so I wanted to actually go to fairinger which I feel like is going to be more comparable to the alternate layout of the course that I'm going to be playing but this course also has its teeth it honestly is just annoying because it's literally like you just hike up and down all these Hills and this is why I typically like to bring at least four putting putters there we go pull two straight ahead there Tina from down here really hard to shoot oh foreign I don't know what these distances are but this feels like Pathfinder even though it's slightly into a headwind so we'll throw those I think it's nice and stable I think that's honestly more of what I want just like the inkling to push up which is why I brought it out and I'll see how this Firebird fair is on a forehand it's like when you focus on being smooth you just start a little bit better I guess and I think it comes down to knowing what my stock shot was this morning and seeing this disc and be like it's not an ultra but it's more similar than I might like right now might be in the water that looks awesome oh tree this is good I need some straddle practice oh wow commit good thing we're playing doubles I definitely didn't miss the next couple putts but that's one of the good things about playing around like this is I am starting to realize the things that I need to work on on the course which is a little bit of extra straddle putting and teaching myself those cues as you'll see throughout the round I start to learn that we're just gonna play through these next couple of holes really practicing a couple different lines per hole and there's a lot of different things that I'm focusing on that aren't just am I throwing a forehand or a backhand I'm trying to think about throwing distance drivers versus Fairway drivers which discs are feeling the most comfortable in my hands trying to throw high and low especially high is more difficult for me and then seeing when I throw high do I prefer to throw flat hyzer anhyzer and throw something more overstable or more understable when I'm actually practicing these lines because if you play Disc Golf for any amount of time you definitely know that your throw evolves with you and one of the things that I think the best in the world do is adapt to how they are throwing in the moment not how they've thrown in the past not how they're wishing they were throwing but seeing how their body is releasing the disc what power they're able to put into it and then changing their dis selection and shot shapes accordingly and really right now what I'm focusing in on is not even like bracing well but it's more so just punching the disc out of my body and then like letting everything else kind of happen and follow through as well as giving it enough height all this while being really smooth and that has really helped me to like spin the disc a little bit better feel relatively powerful feeling like I'm throwing less hard that's also really helpful on my body today was a longer day than I anticipated and I don't want to have to be out here just like ripping shots all night long take two move on maybe three if I'm trying to learn one disc or another so far I am like in the white Pathfinder speaking of other discs that we need to figure out we're going to be throwing the pure here the optocure which is slightly flippy but very stable a lot of newer piers are as well as the envies to see which ones I should bag and I actually had to compare some otherness as well because I had an interesting conclusion I was able to draw oh parked and this one's slightly more stable that's making me think is that Envy almost closers like as close to my zone it's not good I feel like those four kind of bunched up I might need to make a decision that's what I'm really feeling for the weekend no there we go there we go come on turn well definitely got the distance that's a plus that's awesome I feel like that's 400 to clear I don't quite remember but that's a good pump that was one of the holes that I really wanted to test out the Pharaoh one we're gonna have to go back to that field and see if it's there yes it was still here I'm so glad I came back for it driving that hole with a little two-step felt real good I don't really like distances but I know I have enough the funny thing is I say that and I'm gonna like short this hole by 100 feet let's try Flex why not swing back home stretch I always get so excited when I'm almost done at this place it's so bad I don't know why I hate this course so much but I so do shorty I always think I short this Firebird so much and it like still gets there which I think is more of a testament I'll beat it it's getting than like my juice I gotta tell myself that if I miss low like I have to something has to happen I told myself for a couple lead grounds then I like put lights out so just don't miss love dude even on these like that's it just don't miss low it's definitely seen off behind the t-pad this looks like a CD One Shot to me that was good that's right oh dang four and change all the way down there one of my favorite holes here a little early slippage oh let's go I also forgot today is the last day of the daily uploads 10 off anything on my website I don't have a ton of stuff left but it's a lot of the older stuff and honestly thank you so much to everybody who ordered because me taking all that time off last month where I did about half of what I normally do was a little bit stressful for me financially to think about but honestly with all of your support literally over the past two days it's covered almost all if not all of the Gap that I needed to make up so thank you guys so much I left alone better I don't even care Sky it for all I care good whatever you know we'll talk about this now because the sun is gone arguably the most important thing to practice is putting just in general for disc golf but also for tournaments and so I've been filming a lot this week and every day I made sure to get at least 15 minutes of putting practice in figuring out my stroke making sure it feels good my cues which is for me just now don't leave it low and one of the things that really helped me with that is I was really practicing my 45 to like 70 Footers because I made zero Circle two pots my last tournament at the Kansas city wide open and I think I was so timid on so many of them because I was like I don't want to have to make the comeback or if you feel this way I understand that go to your practice basket throw some really far putts and see how long your comebackers are for me personally I've actually been not stepping anything inside of like 90 feet right now I'm not making a lot of them after like 55 but that's really mitigated a lot of my comebackers but I think it'd honestly be surprised if you do go and Putt from like up to about 50 feet how far your comebackers actually are and for me every single one of them every single one was in my comfortable distance even when I was just like not even caring how hard I put it so that really helped me to feel like I can go ahead and run everything this weekend hopefully I actually do it obviously not like crazy death pots be smart about it but if there's not a lot of danger I can just full juice it and make sure I don't miss low because if I miss puts low this weekend and they're not like the most insane death pots ever I want to get I need like to do punishment in some way because I should not be missing possible this week good choice he looks so perfect shape was right 40 feet long don't leave it low or I have to jump in the water see it helps that was a one-time thing that was a one-time thing didn't leave it low oh shoot I almost forgot the most important thing that you have to do at a high level tournament or any tournament for that matter foreign
