welcome back to billions of disc golf and today we're going to relearn how to have snap because for the life of me I cannot snap a disc right now like I cannot have it pivot off of one finger and even right now as I'm gripping this to like try to give you an explanation of how to do it right I just gripped it in a way that is so detrimental because I am putting pressure here and here and here and basically all my fingers have pressure on the disc for no reason so today we're actually going to be seeing if a two finger grip can actually help us develop some snap we're really just focusing on the pinky here and then just putting one finger to stabilize and just focusing on pivoting it off that front finger some people call this front loaded some people call this a pinch grip some people call this a pivot grip to see if this can help me develop good backhand snap form stuff there's still a lot of form stuff that I'm working on in today's fieldwork session and we brought the basket so I can do some putting because I found a field that I kind of fell in love with to be honest with you it's like this massive field where there's a hill that I could do some workouts on it's also got a nice big view of the mountains over there hello thank you but the biggest thing today is not relying on this pinky finger because honestly I consistently feel the disc gripping off my pinky and my forefinger and this is a regression for me we're just gonna see honestly this is gonna be my first throw with a two finger kind of pinch grip see if it does anything good for me oh ow that felt terrible that felt awful that felt so bad I gotta learn how to squeeze the disc but honestly the reason why I want to do this is because one of the most important things in disc golf is spin on the disc and speed spin is going to keep the disc kind of in the air longer maybe I don't know I'm not a freaking signed I was gonna say Scientologist I'm not that but I'm also not a scientist it's a develop spin it comes from obviously your whip from your whole arm position so just kind of whipping the disc out and keeping everything loose but it also comes from your grip where if you are able to Pivot off of one point here you'll get a lot more snap than if you're pivoting off of three points or four points like I have been because this is just much larger of an area to Pivot around than this in the smaller area at the same speed the faster the spin is going to be so that's why today I'm really going to focus on trying to develop a maybe even one finger or two finger kind of pinch grip not to use for my form forever but only to relearn how to actually snap the disc because if you guys have been around for a while back in November I think right after my the last tournament of last season I had actually filmed the video that was about like three beginner tips or whatever to go from like beginner to Advanced or something one of the biggest things in that video was how to develop snap and I talked a lot about that one versus three or four finger things I always always power grip even when I'm throwing Putters even on approach shots I'm throwing with this grip like very short 100 foot distances like this shot from my last tournament I'm throwing power grip all the way when I want to throw a little bit less powerfully I'll load the grip more in the middle to the back of my hand instead of right here at the front so the pressure for my thumb isn't nearly as much because it just is more of a stabilizing motion instead of really putting a lot of pressure so that I can get as much spin out of the disc instead I'm really focusing on just having it be stabilized and having these fingers be where most of my power comes from and then it comes off of these two fingers here when I'm trying to go for power even on putter shots and things like that I'm going to go ahead and load it onto my front knuckle so these are not really touching as much or they're still there to stabilize and they're still being gripped but I'm really pinching between my thumb and my index finger much more so that when I release it it kind of releases off of that index finger instead of off of these three fingers and that point of rotation creates a lot more spin on the disc and that's where you hear the snap that's my first throw at that desk oh baby I would say that's a bit past the light pole there and that stayed on that turn a little bit more now we're going to throw the Explorer same grip same power just not as much pressure so it's much looser in my hand so that one I felt going across these three fingers and because of that it doesn't have nearly as much speed or spin because the rotational point on my finger is not one finger it's four so if you're looking for SNAP that's one of the most important tips I'll give you if you guys have been here for any length of time you probably know that I'm undergoing a form change this off season and now that I'm kind of settling down into Denver and not living in that van anymore but we still have it for now probably selling it soon I'm really able to devote a lot of time to the form change however one thing that I've cut and neglected or maybe is just haven't even thought about it which I guess is neglect is my grip and my wrist position everything honestly as I've been going undergoing this form change has gotten tighter I felt way Tighter and I need to loosen up obviously but I need to relearn the right movement so it's kind of a give and take of you need to learn how to throw the disc correctly and so you have to focus and that oftentimes makes you tighter but then when you do learn it you gotta not think about it at all and just be super loose but that means that my grip has kind of morphed into a very very tight where honestly my forearm is getting a lot of tension and I really need to focus on being a little bit looser and just letting the disc kind of pivot off of this finger like this which I cannot do I think a big part of that is actually grip and not grip on the bottom side of the disc but actually on the top side because what I've been doing has been actually putting my thumb generally around this position which is pretty much in the middle of these fingers instead of honestly being a little bit closer up here to where I'm actually pinching between my index finger and my thumb this grip right here puts a lot of pressure between my thumb and what's directly opposite of my thumb which in this case is actually this finger right here and I have to grip very tightly with my pinky and very tightly here so when I throw the disc I actually feel it ripping out of all of those places and you can kind of see here it's ripping on my pinky and then pretty much all four of my fingers which is really bad if I want it to spin fast and honestly I think this will help with nose angle because ripping out of all those takes a lot more time and gives it more time for it to spin up that's just conjecture though I have no idea if that's actually true so instead of really putting my grip here focusing a little bit more forward on the disc here or even kind of like a Joel Freeman like this I think that really puts the pressure between that and right here like you see the disc isn't moving at all when I took all the rest of these fingers off I just have this and now I can freely kind of pivot around that point and snap it on that pivot point but if my thumb was back here which is how I've been throwing everything where it's the middle of it is kind of right in between these fingers here then if I take these last three fingers off the disc moves so the disc moved did you see that so right here it's right here the disc moved because I took those fingers off whereas if I'm up here and I'm pinching between those fingers the disc isn't moving I'm putting the fingers on and off so that's what I'm going to focus on today and to do that I'm really just going to focus on having these two fingers here these other two are being off and we're just going to really try to sling the disc out unfortunately have a really sad confession to make you're going to see over the whole rest of this time but I was out in this field for five hours and even though I stand by everything that I've already said in this video front loaded versus midloaded grip Works maybe you can even have a fan grip which is front loaded here which is a little pinch grip I spent maybe an hour or two trying to figure that out and then a lot of other time working out some other stuff that we've already talked about on the channel I could not figure it out for the life of me this is weird this is very weird wow nose angle is kind of nasty on those for some reason I would throw it and the disc would just it would come out of maybe a good angle but I was getting no power on it I tried the two finger pinch grip I tried it like this I tried it like this I tried it where I put the rest of my fingers on and I'm not really a proponent of one fieldwork session is going to fix everything anyways and this probably isn't the biggest route to all my problems it's just something that I know that I need to work on and so I'm gonna just practice pivoting the disc just pinch between those fingers this is another thing that like I don't know about and this is where we're gonna go through the rest of this field work session there were some things that I definitely learned that were really cool the problem is I don't know if I'm actually getting a difference and I think I haven't exercised this muscle much recently it's it's just been kind of like going along for the ride and these three fingers are taking control down here I'm gonna try to continue with it but man is it hurting my finger a little I know it's a process but sometimes things can feel gimmicky you know and this is just the reality of trying to figure some stuff out on your own in your own body and how it's going to work with a bunch of bad muscle memory I was able to have one decent breakthrough though which I'm not fully sold on right now because I've watched some more Proform and seen that some do it and some don't and it's actually not the root of what I think my problems are and I'll get to that at the end of this video but let me walk you through that breakthrough as well because I think it can be helpful potentially and I thought it was pretty helpful helped me throw a couple shots over 400 with overstable discs up here not super pretty my brace was falling apart I think I'll just get real tired everything's falling apart so I don't recommend five hour field recessions and I also recommend giving yourself time to figure things out over a longer period but let's get to that and then I'll come back with my main conclusions I brought a basket out because I'm going to be doing some putting and I'm gonna go to like one of the longer spots and then just like then just like throw back all the discs to the basket and try to get them all inside the circle if it works tricky man all right I'm gonna be honest I totally gave up on the freaking grip stuff not that it's bad but for this session I'm a little heated right now like in a good way because looking at my form I'm like what the heck is going on like I feel like I know a lot of the pieces and surprisingly it was one of the very first form things that I ever ever learned because I never looked at form until we started this series in December I threw from 375 feet away over that basket with these two and I have not been over 400 feet in a while and this is 40. so that's 415-ish I'm gonna throw some more for you guys or for myself because I think I finally realized one of the things that was going wrong that's causing me major distance and timing issues but what's really important is this right here which is backroom the first thing that Josh from overthrow ever told me and it's honestly super simple it's that your hips and your shoulders mirror each other in there upward or downward angle as you throw so up up down right now this right side is dropped below the left side right hand is right below the left hand and then it goes up and they switch again my hips I had really thought that I dialed in and they were better for the most part where I go up stay up here in my X step instead of coming down first and then you come down here to coil and then you end up again if we watch all of my form that I showed in yesterday's video as well as everything up until this last little realization my arms have always been up and I've been looking ahead forward with my head and wondering why I'm coiling too early because I would look forward and then I would start to coil here but I'd leave my head here and then I'd have head strain and then I wouldn't get a full coil and I would coil prematurely and I'd be here waiting to follow my brace I wasn't following the rules of your shoulders follow your hips so it's not my head looking forward it's that my shoulders stay up up then coil fall into the brace then throw not perfect at it but I can't believe I've been missing that so much I'm gonna throw a couple times film from the side view as well so you can see what I'm talking about in the throw it's I mean I have thousands of reps now of the bad form so oh I think I just broke this so I'm really hoping that I can uh really get this dial what's what's Wild to me is this is literally the first thing that Josh came over for their disc golf told me about when we were looking at my initial really bad form from before we're gonna go with some drivers real fast try to stay linear on the path and keep the shoulders and the hips in line it's not perfect at all but it's a good start to work from I think my grip still trash not worried about too much just worried about everything staying loose and focusing on hips foreign I gotta look back a little to get a full coil try a couple more times and to just get good flat releases keeping a good brace that's not great but it's better and if I'm in raw with you like this is really embarrassing like you got if you watch our tournament Vlogs literally last November I threw like 410 440 in tournaments and now I'm throwing my drives 355. not stoked about it I also looked at the footage from when I did it and I noticed that I was still a little bit early I want to be here here and then as this is GLA as this is gliding out coiling up up coil so honestly looking back at that footage from that other video my form looked worse but the disc flew 50 to 60 feet farther consistently than it does right now and I think there's a couple main things that obviously there were some power leakage there I was reaching back way too early but when you reach back isn't necessarily the most important thing maybe you can time it a little bit better and have it be good but what's really important is when the throw initiates and I was initiating throw much better then if we look at that form from just that Athena throw that I did my hips were going before my pull through was coming and I think that is the biggest thing getting that heel down and starting the hip rotation which is just moving the momentum forward your hips will naturally rotate from what I understand letting that start the pole and then it's not really a pull at that point and then you pulling the disc the rest of the way through this is probably going to be the end of my fieldwork videos on this channel for a pretty long time because I just want to figure some stuff out and I like showing you guys the process but when it's not fully fleshed out it's not quite as fun honestly the videos aren't doing as good and I want to get out to a field and throw for you guys here so if you want I will be whenever I'm doing field work sessions kind of talking through them breaking them down in a much less structured video than this over on my second Channel but dance is bogey so please go subscribe to that and watch those videos as they come out if you're interested in this overall Journey I'm sure I'll post about that on this channel as well but that's where those will be coming out probably pretty often because I'm basically doing field work every single day but I think I've over complicated things these last three or four fieldwork videos that I've done I focused on a pretty minute detail in my form and not on the main thing which is when your hips fire before your shoulders and you have hip to shoulder separation the disc goes farther um it doesn't matter really what your grip is at that point this is gonna go farther with a very back loaded grip and perfect hip to shoulder separation versus having a really spinny grip here and I do need to develop more spin especially being at elevation now the discs don't Glide as much but I think figuring out how to have that head to shoulder separation with a good brace is going to be the main thing that I work on and we'll work on a bunch of that over on the other channel I'm going to end it here with this video I'm showing you kind of where I was at after this field work session because it's not always pretty especially as I'm in the throes of it but I mean I have a full other month and a half to really dial this in and feel comfortable about it and game doesn't feel terrible as you guys will see in a in a tournament-ish video tomorrow that will come out that I played yesterday which is a blast Triple Threat challenge you get three random discs and you play with them I think if I wanted to be a higher level amateur disc golfer or lower level Pro I'd be pretty happy with where I'm at but for someone who's trying to get to a point where they can eventually cash an approach your event there's a long ways for me to go and maybe that takes the whole year maybe that takes two years but I'm gonna really give it my all for this next month dialing in this form stuff you'll see a lot of that on badan's bogeys let's get to the last little bit of putting here in the outro the video um this video was a ride this four book has been a ride and I just want to have some fun on the course and that's what you guys will be seeing for the next little bit one last Putt and I'll finish up my 200 pots that I'm doing today did 100 inline 100 straddle and not every day can look like the perfect form that I always have on the channel you know oh I did manage to touch 400 again I'm excited to let my body reset drink a lot of protein eat a lot of protein today please oh thank goodness uh but that's it I'm not really going to kick it to the booth because I'm a little demoralized and that's okay and tomorrow early on we've got that fun little tourney so we'll have fun there plenty of time left I got to keep reminding myself six weeks is so much time especially when I'm out here every day not seeing crazy improvements but they'll come with time hopefully and I'll show you guys some progress reports along the way but back to fun content soon field work is productive but not fun you know okay love you guys bye wait watch this video I don't know okay peace
