welcome back to Bonanza disc golf today I want to talk about why more than likely I make more putts than you do also we'll get two things out of the way real quick first this is CCU Colorado Christian University this golf course a little nine hole track that will play to put and talk a little about putting also this is a new bag you've seen a couple of new bags in the videos they're pre-released so you can't get your hands on them yet but don't worry when they do I will have affiliate links that you can buy them through and support the channel and it'll be awesome for One Straight Ahead there no idea any of the distances on these holes swords I'm on it and since that's a great shot actually since we're putting today we'll throw a couple here's a glitch okay I'm just trying to show you a good spread of discs you know and one more just for funsies a little Pathfinder forehand putting video on the channel but that was more on the mechanics of putting and I'll link that one at the end of this video in this video I want to talk a lot more about the reasons why you might make less putts than you could be making and the first thing is that I've committed to a putting stroke the way that I go down and come back up I've committed to that putting stroke but on top of that I've also committed to a putting putter these are all latitude 64 piers and this is what I putted with since I think like almost a year now and I've only been playing for like 13 months oh this Pathfinder rolled all right I want to get this out of the way really quickly I'm definitely not the best putter but it's something that I'm continually striving to get better at and putting is one of the strongest points in my game I've had a couple tournament rounds that are 100 c1x online not bad you're going uphill and if you've watched my videos before you've probably seen some relatively decent putting performances and I never like cut to a different putt I always just put the first one and then like there's no need for me to fake anything if I'm trying to like show you my journey of the Pro Tour by committing to a putting stroke which right now is actually inline putting versus what you saw last year which is all straddle putt which we'll get to in a second but committing to a putting stroke and a putting putter means two things one my body my hands are used to what it feels like to throw a good putt that is not it that was a little nose down geez but it also means that when I threw that putt since I've committed to a putting stroke and my putting putter I know the reason why that was bad and that's because I threw it a little nose down and I ended with my hand a little down instead of flat and open it wasn't a bad puddle just a teaching moment you know when you commit to a putting stroke make sure that it has enough Spin and distance to get you to the basket on tour you can see people draining pots with so many different styles of putting so it's not exactly the style of putting that matters there are some mechanics that like are important and some levers in your arm that you want to figure out and I'll link that video like I said at the end of this one but if you're able to get the pot to the basket from about 35 feet with a relatively simple putting stroke stick with that stroke if you like it stick with a Putter and that'll be important and I know that I make more pots than for sure some of you guys because whenever I putt well with the disc like my polka video Putter really well my Rainmaker video put it really well you guys are like oh my gosh you need to change to The Rainmaker listen come here if you are making comments like that you're blaming your Putters for not practicing putting it's not because I'm putting with those Putters that I'm putting well is because I practice putting and if you can get the hand feel of a putter down and it's relatively comfortable or you can compensate for that you can putt with whatever disc so stop blaming your Putters if you commented that on my videos go practice putting pick one putter don't blame your Putter and just pull with that for like a month it'll be way better get through oh go in okay yup recently as you guys have watched me use a lot more inline putting some people call staggered stance where one foot is in front of the other and you putt like this instead of straddle stance putting which is what I did last year and in that season I had really good putting performances and the pot was one of my better parts of my disc golf game but some of you guys have commented asking like why did I change if I was so good at that I just practiced rattle putting and because I just practiced straddle putting I got good and now I've basically just been practicing inline putting and one of the reasons I like it a lot is because this Envy probably has a circle but I don't want to check if it's at a circle or not because in my tournaments that would get in my head if I checked and it was like 31 32 feet it's like crap I can't stop at this because I prefer to step putt with an inline pot I feel much more comfortable in the 30 to 40 foot range if I don't want to check if it's a step putter or not yeah wow that's embarrassing I feel like I have much more confidence in a very simple stroke getting it to the basket than having to generate a lot more power of course of course from a straddle stance I just feel like it's a lot easier to get the height much more consistently and even when I threw that straddle putt I had a lot more questions as to whether or not it was going to get to the basket because I feel like it's easier for me to generate power from an inline than it is from a Stroud Putt and I think you should have both in Your Arsenal focus on one to start with and then when you're good enough at it start focusing on the other two and that honestly brings me to talk about something that's a way to practice putting with an app who's actually the sponsor of today's video DG pot right here you can get it in the App Store sorry that my phone is so broken it is free but there is a premium version and we're actually going to play one of my favorite games from it while I talk to you about the app it's called jyly it's 100 pots from various distance and it changes the distance based on how many putts you made of the last set but as you can see there's a ton of different games that you're able to play which I think is really helpful for practice because if you don't just have the motivation just get out there and rep it out this can be really helpful in twofold one making you competitive against yourself and wanting to beat yourself and that's one of the reasons why I really love this app during last season while I was really focused and dialed in on practicing putting I have not really been practicing putting as much but as my season gets closer about three weeks out I'm genuinely planning on using this very consistently some really nice new features that they actually have just recently integrated is a new leagues feature where you can actually create a putting league and host it in this app itself DG putt I'll link it down in the description like I said giving yourself structure to practice as well as a way to track it and see like how you're improving or which areas of putts you need to work on which is one of the main reasons why I love this game that I'm playing right now can be really helpful to help you stay on track so definitely check out this app in the link down below and download it you don't have to get the premium version but it does unlock some extra cool features and some extra games definitely give this app a try and I'll let you know right now my score on the Julie which is putts from five six seven eight nine and ten meters a hundred putts total and it'll give you a total percentage of how many you made hopefully you stay back towards the 10 meter Mark though because that means you're making another bounce for a video talking about how my putting's pretty decent not the best showing but I never had to go back to the first station which is the biggest win that's just one of the games a lot of other ones are better suited to different types of practice like if you need to really work on your short puts or really work on your circle two putts but what's great about that is I got that such a bad score like normally if I practice putting I just Putt and I don't really keep track of how many I make or Miss but now I'm like man I really want to get into the 70s 80s maybe even 90s sometime out of 100 pots pretty much just staying back at 33 feet so really excited to continue using that thank you so much dgpuff for sponsoring this video I love working with companies that I like to use and that I think provide a lot of value to people who actually want to get a lot better at disc golfing did you put is definitely one of those it's great this is a great example of like a nice little 320 whatever foot hole and another way that you could potentially start to make more pots is throwing better drives I know that sounds simple but especially in the tournament drives and up shots are going to be so important so even if you don't throw a good drive like we're gonna stop here at about 100 feet and throw some upshots very simple game because we're gonna need to finish out all of the putters that we throw we're just gonna throw my peers at it foreign because this drill right here should not be a putting drill it's going to become one because of that bad shot but this should just be an upshot drill ideally you should be making all of these right inside the bullseye about 15 feet if not closer try them on some different angles as well like a little anhyzer with the pier because the point of this is when you have less putts to make your overall stress in a round is going to go down drastically when I keep leaving myself 20 25 30 foot putts in tournaments even if I make those putts having to step up there and do that every single time is going to make each one feel a little bit harder it's also going to make your driving feel a little bit harder because you have all that accumulated stress and so doing a drill like this where you're working on your up shots and just working on your drives in general putting it this closer to the basket and making all these what the farthest one here this may be 20 feet what a lot of people don't think about and one of the things that I think helped me to play a lot better towards the end of my season last year was I thought about accumulated stress and every time that I make a bad shot or make a bad decision it would make the next shots more stressful and that is hard to dissipate during a round so you basically have to wait till after around the less stress you can accumulate during your round the better it's going to be the shorter the puts you have to make the better that's going to be so throwing will actually help you make more putts because those 25 Footers later in the round after you've made 10 10 Footers or 15 Footers it's not going to feel nearly as difficult as if you've had to make or Miss 25 30 35 40 Footers back to back to back then that 20 foot or that 25 foot around hole 16 or 17 it's going to feel much more difficult all right this next I think is like 450. foreign that's not bad especially because we need to talk about Circle two putting first big tip with circle two putting is to only run putts if you feel like you can make the comebacker if you don't feel like you can make the comebacker from a 40-foot putt which might turn into a 25 foot putt lay it up it's going to earn you Strokes it's going to make you better at the game in a tournament round or if you're like in a scoring casual round but I always like to bring two to four Putters with me to always practice my putts and correct by consistently having two or three discs that I just will put every single time that I play it makes it a lot easier for me to get better at realizing what I'm doing wrong because I can try to correct it and until you've learned what you are doing wrong for both inside and outside the circle pots can be really helpful to have multiples and so for instance here this is going to be interesting because these are both like edge of circle two not even quite inside the circle we'll talk about step versus jump putting if you're inside of 10 meters inside of 33 feet then you can't even fall over your lie but from back here this is like easily 60 plus it's past 33 feet so if I want to I can go ahead and as long as the disc comes out before this foot comes off the ground we're good but that could be one reason why you like a step putt instead of a jump putt because the step putt the foot's always going to stay on the ground and you just step now personally for me when I get out to this distance after about 45 feet I've realized that since I have to go a little bit more up to get the full distance there if I want to go a little straighter I can jump Putt and as long as this foot stays on the ground before this comes out of my hand I'm able to push it a little more forward at the basket instead of up because you don't want to throw up you want to throw towards the basket oh much better height and left me with a much closer comeback putt so if you notice these are all my jump pots because I know my distances in this step pot I got it past the basket but it's much less controllable like everything step and jump hunting I would really focus on getting the disc towards the basket towards the basket not spinning it up my biggest help is when I pause at the bottom for half a second before I explode out towards the basket all right for this next putting tip this isn't necessarily the wind reads yet but because we're right here I want to give you a tip on how to make sure you're lining up your putt so that it will go straight into the basket big shout out tyrelatis over on Instagram he posted just a real about this where it's something that I've been doing but I haven't known like a Q4 or heard the second part of it because everyone says like paint the pole with your hand when you go up that way you're going straight towards the pole but the other part that Tai talked about was painting your spine so you come down on your spine and you come up on the pull I think that's pretty helpful because sometimes you can go down and then paint the pole and when you do that it creates like a little bit of an awkward angle where it's going to come out on hyzer and a little flutter and a little bit to the right so basically you want to paint your spine and paint the poles a little low because there's a left to right wind a slight Hyster so it's going to drop your putt let's quickly talk wit right now the wind is coming directly from the left to my right if I'm here if I putt a little bit on hyzer it's going to drop my disc because the wind is going to be pushing that side down so I want to make sure that I aim a little higher just like if there was a Tailwind pushing my Putt and it'll help it to sit more in the basket if we move over to this side of the basket we're now putting into basically direct headwind where if you keep your disc flat it's going to raise a little bit if you put nose up at all it's really going to raise it into that if you put nose down it's actually going to drop it into the headwind it's a Tailwind here where when I'm coming at the basket flat at it it's going to drop it a little bit so instead of aiming here I might aim actually a little bit up here the further back you are the higher you need to aim some of the biggest putts I made I've actually been Tailwind putts where I aimed like right here and knew that the table was going to drop it into the basket honestly Tailwinds are some of the trickiest wins for me because nose up nose down slight hyzer they all act a little bit interesting for me personally but that brings us to this type of Crossing which is the right to left where now I want to be aiming to the right of the basket or since it's a right to left if I'm putting it all on hyzer it's actually not only going to push my discs to the left it's actually going to push it up too so I'll typically actually aim right around here on the basket personally and if I want to really counteract the right to left it'll actually change the way that I put the disc to make sure that it counteracts against the win it's really hard to judge whether you need to aim here or here or here but if you just put it at slight anhyzer it's going to fight against the wind flight anhighs are hard at the middle of the basket throw it right in the spinnier your putts the less are going to be affected by the wind which is why spin putts are a little bit more helpful the pushier your pots the more they're gonna be affected by the wind because there's just less spin on it to help keep the disc flying in the trajectory that you set it on I know this is a lot but I wanted to really help out on like some things that you can think about as cues if you do Miss putts don't think about this all the time but if you miss a putt and you have that second or third Putt in your hand when you go to reput it maybe think about it at that point because sometimes the wind is only like two or three miles an hour and I'll overcome somebody like oh it's a Tailwind I need to aim at the band and I hit the band or it's a headwind and I need to aim at the basket and I'm at the basket and it doesn't lift because the wind sometimes isn't even that strong so that's why also when you practice don't just practice inside if you can practicing outside can be very helpful as well okay there aren't really any Great Hills here but straddle putting over inline putting when you're going down the hills up and downhill can be different because you can change the distance of where your legs are if you're going down a hill you can spread your legs out with a stagger stance if you're going up a hill you can make them closer together because that brings your chest height up or down towards the basket on a side Hill sloping from the left down to the right in the baskets on it typically my Miss is in the grade of the hill so I'll typically Miss to the right side because I'm right-handed and sloping down towards my right so a lot of times I'll actually aim just one chain link to the left of center and a lot of times that'll just bring it back right back to the middle similar on the opposite if it's going down from the right to the left my Mist tends to be towards the left so I'll aim a little bit right side and since I'm a hyzer putter actually probably two or three chain links away and that really helps me to get a much better chance because honestly the biggest thing is just giving yourself opportunities but if you just take a glitch forehand you pretty much make everything into the tree line is it make everything into the tree line so I meant to say if anyone has a tournament coming up my biggest advice always is only practice putting up until your tournament like the last four days obviously practice the course if you need to practice the course but your main focus should be practicing putting not to learn a new stroke but to gain confidence because if you can be a confident putter going into your round then if you do miss something you'll know that you're a better partner than that but stepping up with more confidence helps you to get that disc chain High more because the Miss consistently in tournaments his nose down because you're scared of having to make a comebacker make sure that your chest is up not high because you'll Sky it not low because you're anxious about your Putt and you kind of are balling up into yourself in the tournament because you're nervous make sure you get those shoulder blades back but not up because that helps you get chest high with the basket and put it right in the middle make sure that when you're about to put you are breathing before your Putt and if you want to be like me where I like to go down and then like do that little thing as I as I breathe out it's really helpful for me to make sure I get the spin on the disc of the juice a lot of times if I forget to do that I miss a lot of putts like I have done earlier in this video remember also that laying up is a really good disc golf play if you're not confident man this really works so you didn't do it barely made it oh my gosh it's actually crazy how much that worked for me trying to make a putt if you're not confident you will make it and you're not confident that you'll make the comebacker please just lay that up 100 of the time your rating and your scoring and your confidence will be helpful because you're not going to have that stress if I do not think I can make this putt from right here which is a very tight window to the basket right here I might be able to make it but if instead of that I can focus on okay there's a big window right there if I just lay up or right through this bigger window without trying to get it chain high and like straddle out here and just throw a little anhyzer and just like pitch up the basket okay now I have one executed a shot that I was trying to execute which is a big confidence booster because you tell yourself hey I can do this and then now I don't have to putt anymore so you're not accumulating any more stress by doing that and you're actually making things better on yourself because you actually did something that you were trying to do but the biggest thing to remember this golf is fun now someone who's trying to catch an approach to event and do this as a full-time job like the content side of things is it's hard to remember that sometimes because it's just what I do all the time for a living but I've always played my best golf when I go into a tournament round trying to have fun not trying to crush the field or do anything like I always play really good so that's what I'm going to try to go into this year doing obviously trying to win but mangle being having fun or at least that being my Outlook is that this golf is fun if you don't have a good putting stroke and you want to think through a little bit more of the mechanics on it definitely check out this video right down here my other putting video I've already done that or you'd be like you have a good putt uh go check out this video right down there I'll probably put these in it maybe I'm crap I don't know not the best fighter but hopefully this helps you okay let me make this clip shot real fast and then put in some chain sound effects so that you won't know if I did a remote okay love you guys bye
