Watch on YouTube

The 2018 Oklahoma Open features a thrilling second round of disc golf action, sponsored by Discmania and Champion Discs. Gabriel Dow and Bobby Cox break down the card, highlighting top players like Eagle McMahon, Richard White, Bo Bartlett, Clayton Riddle, and Greg "Beef" Barsby. The par-3 hole at 284 feet poses a challenge with trees down the fairway, but the experts agree it's a great opportunity to showcase technique, particularly with late-turning shots or controlled forehands. McMahon, currently tied for the highest rated player in the world, is likely throwing an MD-3, while Bartlett showcases his expertise with death throws. The event also features Greg "Beef" Barsby, the current world champion from Grass Valley, California, bringing a high level of competition to the field.

welcome everybody to the second round of the Oklahoma open 2018 sponsored by discmania and in of a champion Discs my name is Gabriel Dow and I am here with Bobby Cox what's up everyone we've got a pretty awesome card for you today we've got Eagle McMann sitting at 14 down Richard white at 13 bow Tillman at 13 as well Clayton as well and then Greg's one behind everybody sitting at 12 whole one here is a par 3 it's 284 feet it's got a lot of trees down the fairway but it's pretty much just a straight putter or mid-range shot you might want to throw something a little bit late turning or yeah late turning towards the end just to get right up to the basket yeah there's a little gap at the very beginning but these guys are such good players there's no doubt they're gonna make it alright so first we have Eagle McMahon who is actually tied for the highest rated player in the world right now along with Paul Macbeth he had a really good season this year yeah he does not suck that's for sure looks like he's throwing most likely an MD 3 just right up the gut like I said if you make it past those trees there's an initial kind of jail in front there's about six trees that you got to get past but once you're past those it's it's pretty much easy money yeah and Richard going with the forehand here probably so we can see the gap the whole way but unfortunately he is the trian guy so right and there's that kind of jail of trees that you got to get past and he just happened to unluckily hit one of those here we got Bo this is like his specialty shot just some deaths right he's really good at controlling those angles and see right there he hits that middle tree and kicks the left all right it looks like Clayton is lining up the straight putter shot there it's looking good just squeaking by those trees on the left there and here we have the current world champion Greg bars beat out of Grass Valley California so awesome having them in tall so he's really bringing out mass gallery for this tournament it was a great pleasure filming for sure all these guys really there they just it's so fun to watch them play and this is like the most challenging course and Tulsa people would argue oh absolutely this this is my favorite course in Tulsa for sure just challenging and well-designed it's awesome yeah if you can stay in the fairways and stay away from those takes in the summertime then it's absolutely amazing in Greg's kind of boats got to do a little patent-pending shot here that's well done and the world champ for the to start off right here at blackhawk just off the cage just low he's definitely not gonna be happy with that no this is one that everyone wants to - that's a great recovery putt by Richard just a it even sure you wanted the two they're trailing Eagle by one speaking of let's see if he can knock down the bird for a stroke on the field yeah you know Stevie I was going on before TV oh yeah that's that's easy Eagle range right there that's a tap-in for him oh all righty scada birdies one two birdies that's good that's good and this hole it's just it's pretty tricky you love it or you hate it sometimes it seems super easy sometimes it feels like one of the hardest holes out here yeah like I mean it's right there but those trees they get me every time every single time yeah I'm like no that's why you're an advanced in there you know playing professional so I hope you here is a 302 foot part three easiest a lot here yeah nothing too dangerous about it really I mean there's a tree kind of straightforward with some branches hanging over but it's pretty much your standard hyzer that you won't just throw something out by coming back maybe driver made whatever it's just as long as it's over stapling to come back and skip right up to the basket the biggest mistake I see on this hole and I'm guilty of it is you know something a little bit with too much Heiser and don't look quite hard enough they come up short of this basket yeah yeah which is incredibly frustrating cuz it's not very far do you totally shank that oh yeah that's crazy that gap is big enough for him to hit oh yeah I mean if you're an open player you're hitting the scaffold all day every day yeah okay that's looking pretty good from Clayton just a little bit of a late release one Eagle the little tee soft though he's right down there's like kind of a little mini hill right behind the basket and he'll be putting slightly uphill now that's looking like the shot that looks perfect just your standard Heiser yeah that's perfect yep and yeah and this all you really can throw anything you want realize yeah so every more comfortable throwing you can go mid chill the speed up super over stable fairway I've seen a couple skips hit the chains and pop out I mean this is a variable hole for sure and that was a great shot by boat by the way better right there about 15 feet from the basket too far that's about circles edge it's crazy seeing Eagle happen to pitch up on this hole yeah yeah I was I was actually back there filming I was just like wait that was Eagle bit yeah you still expected from look at that oh definitely and this can be kind of a scary poke with the little drop off on the bass yeah there is a drop off and I've seen a lot and a skew rollaways behind there and this is one of the few holes where the baskets out in the open so you can often catch a lot of wind on this hole oh yeah hey Clayton Lawson for the - oh maybe a little nerves yeah yeah definitely make him leak hard mm-hmm with some really high cop and you gotta you got a stroke on the field on the last hole and - Eagle well - evil yo yeah yeah well tap him from bow tie him up 14 Tapan in surprising three crossing far I go on to all three I had actually never lost the Clayton play before but yeah I mean either yeah yeah he's really good he's he's kind of up-and-coming he's from the Oklahoma City area yeah really he's had a really good season as well all three is a 455 foot par 3 it's interesting because of this tree on the right you see here I mean most people would be throwing the forehand some will be filling the turnover shot but I mean you can get some pretty nasty kicks if you kick right there's a little creek area with a tiny gap that you can hit but I mean that's not ideal obviously but yeah we're handy yeah if you're a right-handed player in your thrown a forehand you've really got to make sure it flips up and ride straight if it goes high as was the whole way it's kind of finished in that ditch on the right and you're pretty much in jail it's really hard to get to the basket like that looks a little sketchy here well that was yeah I mean he made it really far down the fairway but he might have a tricky up shot yeah I guess so there's just a tiny gap there really the name of this course is to keep the disc on the fairway off the drum yeah yeah if you keep it in the fairway you're good yeah and since he's on the left side it's not nearly as thick as the right so he should be okay from there and though looks like he was trying to turn that over but Gregg's going with a traditional play here and grace one of the best forehand players he's really good at getting his the flat or even turning quite a bit and getting a ton of distance oh yeah it looks effortless yeah absolutely speaking of effortless forehand yeah it's got balls just Eagle McMahon you know he's doping all hide but come back yeah he got pretty fortunate there yeah he did he didn't cut a trace on the fairway he's in position he'll be able to save three from there it's like players go for any flex yeah that's a beautiful show that's that's pretty much forever you want to be mm-hmm it's not ideal for the two but definitely an easy three from there yeah if you're tuned this whole props to you you know you had an insane Drive yeah and well Greg to right here oh my god scaring it and Greg's made so many of those this year just the throwing the ball throw ins it seems like every round he has one good up shot by Eagle crazy a great up shot looks like he might have like a little auntie line looks like yeah oh great fortunately not to take further into that gradua there's a lot of stuff away oh just gonna lay up about three weeks earlier than this you know these trees are way thicker you know oh yeah yeah the leaves are starting to fall this course in the summertime is very very challenging yeah very challenging and lots of bugs it's pretty good run fighting oh let's move along come back too though oh man and he is gonna have to take on this those three as well yeah no twos not surprising I mean it is a very challenging you might I mean ego ego and Greg good good for sure do it oh absolutely if you're too in this hole you're definitely getting a stroke on the majority of the field facility oh all right we've got hold for this is a par three as well probably one of the more challenging par threes out here because you have this tiny little gap shining right in front of the basket and people you just have to throw either the perfect four hands look up the flat shot with some over stability at the end or a turnover shot yeah you see a lot of people pull on the putter honestly yeah and they're just trying to get through that gap that you see right there yep yeah I do prefer the four in line so you can see the gap the whole way through the whole shot yeah this is this is like the last hole pretty much a bonus bird because I mean you're you're getting a stroke on the field for sure with the two on this one see and even that looked like a fantastic shot off the tee boxes and he's still in the rough but I think he'll take that all day why I said you literally just have to throw the perfect for hand flip up to flat shot to get all the way there yeah that cut horrible car rolled right back in the fairway yep easy up shop in there it's always made for Greg oh yeah absolutely burned it oh is it coming back out no AJ is going to there's a little clump of trees up there to the left you can't really see it from the camera angle right here but I was gonna skip a mile to I'm not either and I was looking good he just needed a little bit more right which is what his shot just requires so much touch such good aim and that's putting yeah that's that's a great circle to something like that yeah oh yeah and should be noted that there is an airport across the street so we weren't it we weren't able to fly the drone yeah we kind of had to walk it so we do what we could to get you guys the footage of the holes and that's coming up way short but it's in the middle fairway and he'll take that okay I'm just gonna have to push up with the forehand here yeah looks like a mystery Wow a little bit sawed off which is very surprising to see from Greg and yeah that was not a good upshot it's gonna have a little about 30 footer their home struggles edge claims now jump this up there right next to Clayton can be laying up as well yeah it's to come and spot the lamb on this along here it's if you're not not getting a tooth that's a great spot to be and he kind of he's not a tester yeah especially in the woods a little bit weird footing maybe that's a good run yep see if evil can get this too oh the band right off the band that was a great run now it seems like he touches metal no matter where he's funny oh yeah he's just got that down man especially this year he's been killing up yes I can get put in the rough oh yeah right in keeps in a 14 down one back of people nothing in his par 5 my favorite hole out here it's par for 560 foot dogleg left so pretty much I mean players like Simon this guy around the tree but the majority throwing something super over stable as far as an industry well not as far as you can but does something low something over stable low and hard and you should get a massive skip to the left there's nothing you missed up a bundle of trees right there yeah as long as you missed that bundle of trees you'll have a wide open up shot just dead straight shot yeah this but then if you don't throw hard enough in the Heiser into the woods then you're in like for enroller so yeah which is not fun yeah the woods around this you just need to stay in the fairway that's that's just low enough to where it should get a pretty decent skip those trees there it's looking pretty good oh yes and that's the sweet that little gap right there is what you want to hit if you can get that get the nice little skip around and you have these super easy up shot for three Greg a little bit a little bit and that's me a really tricky spot yep it's just a weird stance trying to straddle out or whatever from behind those trees wait a minute kind of pinches off the fairway to something tight let's see through hard no no no it's perfect yeah that's perfect I mean he was right inside of a gap he's gonna have a nice little up shot and Clayton's got some sneaky power he can really put a movement on a disc that's looking nice yeah you're really trying to just give yourself the best angle to the basket on this hole Wow what have you a little turnover putter yeah that's so hard to do what is he like is not there no doubt yeah he's he's certainly for sure awesome how do you do that go my kill hush just a slow turning putter Anheuser forehand down a tie fairway and Richard widen up in this little Heiser caught the trees though oh man and that's something you really don't want to do on this hole on your upshot is just you want to keep it lower because there's a lot of branches just kind of hanging over the range oh that's not even that close really from like from where he was I think he's got that putt though Eagles got an easy little putter up shot I'm sure he's got this dialed in yeah he's like kind of kind of on the left side so he has a little bit room for the Heiser a little slight hyzer yep and that's exactly what he did yeah he played this hole literally perfectly oh yeah and that's pretty much all it's asking for is just just skip on to the left nice little putter shot up and you're good and I thought Eagle might have been going for the over the top side off the drive but I did too I was I was actually filming and I kind of made my way over towards the basket thinking that he might be doing something like that but I mean it's not be like be perfect yeah if it's not the perfect shot then you're in an awful position exactly and that's why you're missing didn't throw that shot is because you know he has the lead and it's an easy enough hole to burn it and his opponents aren't gonna get that aggressive see why why try to yeah good Popeye bibo they're putting a 15 down about 25 yeah there it is a little high but uh caught it pretty nicely Sadie's bird eating they're making up for the rap shots yeah oh yeah yeah I've taken some pretty big numbers on this whole just going into the rough we were lucky to not see any of these guys go into the rough because it is very brutal yeah I mean like this this is the course where you got to be super sharp on all of your shots you can't have any mental mess-ups you know where you get lazy and I don't really think out a shot but you really got to take your time and keep it in the fairway I can't stress it enough and Eagle with a very clean Brady they're super clean Eric you're taking a par he's not happy with it but I mean he's not taking a boat with hitting that tree and he was lucky enough not to kick further into the woods yeah and hole six is a 268 foot par 3 most people will be throwing a little forehand skip shot you really want to throw it kind of flat at the beginning something overstable to have it skip right in front of those trees that you just saw in front of the basket I mean some people will be going for the backhand I'm sure we'll see one or two of those on this card but yeah I mean if you throw four hands pretty often you'll most likely go for the forehand right go back hands to go at the back end run out the back hand rather there are a little bit more trees in the way towards the end mm-hmm like those you see there but he seemed to get the room oh yeah he got through all those and is actually pretty deep well I think he's got that putt as well the forehand gap is just so much more open compared to the backhand yes that one tree on the right it really is and that one tree makes it look somewhat smaller that gap and that's like a pretty taste yeah it isn't working perfect Oh a millimeter higher that would have been nice ladies and gentlemen yes that should have went in yeah yeah that was great shot no no oh it still got up there though I thought I just got shot straight down he's gonna be left with maybe 45 50 feet yeah I'm sure you'll expecting gala bit closer than that yeah especially on this hole cuz for these guys it's it's definitely a musket I got goosebumps from that that almost ace yeah no I was I was right behind the basket filming and I thought it was in as soon as I saw it skip I was like that's it and don't don't mess up the angle the exactly exactly don't freak out okay yeah you gotta get the shot that's looking pretty tasty as well yeah that's looking awesome oh and that is number two ladies and gentlemen we just had to almost aces wow that was awesome Clayton just an easy move up and down oh wow yeah he's wish I did not just see him hit that tree I wanna see Eagle make this he's taking it so everyone wise and I'm one part in the world oh yes you got a little stable yeah I got a little stable on them on the end there ended up a little bit left there's clay for two and oh that man that's what he's been doing on all this plus the straps he's been putting the energy on it Tory gets there he's just been riser dried front and Richard rose inside this trip cool play my fourth my stake in the bogey and he is not happy at all with a bogey on this hole no with two knee races right this is this is definitely a musket and Eagle very just playing with this ball I'm sure oh yeah there's holes out here that's like you need to get the two you have to birdie it yeah and then there's holes where you're just trying to get a par yeah you know and that was one of those holes for sure yeah and whole seven here pretty much like you want to make this front cap just that the camera just went through you're like if you hit that gap then you're good yeah I mean as long as it's not turning over or hiring early into the stuff but you pretty much want something like just a flip up flat and putter that'll just ride all the way to the basket you'll also see a forehand I personally prefer the prefer the forehand yeah forehand you have a better percent of making the gap but not quite getting all the way up to the basket it's hard to keep a forehand just dead straight yeah yeah takes a lot of practice yeah you just kind of have to force it over though show them a little bit Oh a little bit of an early release and caught that left tree and here we're gonna see beforehand line basically the same shot II did a whole one yeah a little I wonder what that disc is if you know that this is put in the comments yeah it yeah put in the comment section if you know what that disc is that purple putter maybe don't ruin I'm guessing a VR his Greg's just so good at I mean we just saw him two holes ago throw a 200 foot turnover putter shot yeah this touch game is for real really good yeah they're a little short but I think he's got that putt Richard lineup beforehand as well looks like he's got a mid in his hand and just saws it off it looks like into the way these fight through the oh yeah yeah yeah you got graphic yeah very calm yeah didn't really catch it but it looks like he got a kick off of one of those first trees kind of out towards the fairway this is right down the middle that is the ideal shot for this hole and it's just so hard to do that's really just cuz that first gap just gets in your head and though it's a job there yeah he's the dial-in that that upshot game a little bit yeah he's he's making the pus but he's making a hard for him he's gonna have a long putt for save his par yeah exactly going Oh Richard Richard why wow that is an awesome putt from way deep and he is overjoyed with that putt for sure and that gives him again the confidence going into the next so absolutely probably one of the hardest holes out here at least most intimidating one of the most to me one of yeah her Eagles gonna be straddling out here it looks like he's got some branches he'd kind of prefer this straddle over being her with leaves in his face yeah this is time to pull how to bow you know that was perfect easy money right there I guess if you are number one in the world you should be able to put straddle and stagger yeah we call that the normal way greg japanese bird i was a great shot and Clayton as well yeah they're two great drives on the whole seven our whole eight par three it's a finger in thirty nine foot pretty much you have a safe play which is a forehand through the left gap through the trees which is not necessarily ideal for these guys cuz I mean if you're playing up and you got the power 339 foot hyzer to get to the basket but it is gonna carry over the OB water but pretty pretty easy for these guys yeah one of the things on this hole is if you are going with the big Heiser you really need to make sure you throw it wide enough to miss the overhanging branches yeah and you gotta throw it really really hard cuz it does look a little bit shorter than in a place yeah oh absolutely and there's often a lot of strong headwind on the soil - so you got to take something stupid overstable yeah and that tree right there really gets in your head when you're on the tee box because it is right there in the hydro line you have to throw it just right of that tree to have it swing all the way back to the basket because the pond actually kind of swings back towards the basket yeah towards the basket a little bit further on in the hole that you can't really see right now but that's how you play eagle high and wide but not I don't have that power to get away with that exact look at that that's no that's perfect like this hole is way harder than what that just looked like yeah I mean if you got the power that's the play just throw it really wide really high and you're there it's kind of funny because we have people in Tulsa that that take massive breaks out to this pond and rake discs every week and just get piles of them oh yeah and they take it to basket case and let the owners know that they got their disk back yeah shoutout to a Michael Westfall I've gotten a couple days from him there's a couple guys I've thrown lots of distance bonds and he's found I'd say about four or five of my desk for me yeah so that's that's definitely much appreciated yeah all these guys are making it look super easy and I believe if someone does go in the water they play from the white Hawk tee box up there yeah unless it hits the bank what's this about yeah yeah unless it touches OB okay I mean this hole is pretty standard sky high sir yeah see ya Richard yeah gonna be he's plenty on the white Hawk which is another course I hear just shorter tees same baskets it's really two completely different courses I mean yeah I really is why talks is definitely much easier of course but it's a but it's almost more fun though because you're not you know in the in the woods all day yeah yeah that's true but not for these guys these guys on the challenge yeah these guys from that distance my legs are shaking I'm having a hard time breathe and then it just falls out of my hand yeah especially in tournaments necessarily yeah you got a good putt yeah sometimes thank you Raging Bull right yep yeah he's gonna have to settle for a bogey and these two drives yeah I've never been that close before actually I have said a lot of times yeah yeah the Heiser just never worked out I thought I had power no yeah I end up still figuring that out trying to get back close thrown a lot further last season but okay but um whole nine we have a par-3 396 foot you've got double OB there's two ponds actually you have the initial pond that we played last hole OB and then there's a pond to the left on the fairway so there's just kind of the skinny island leading up to the basket most of these guys will be throw-in I'd say maybe like a Thunderbird or something like that via PD and they're probably gonna be aiming on the right side of those knees and just having a high serve right in front and head right to the basket yeah but this is it's a good way too much turn that's turned over just a little bit but the mistake on this hole is just that what though it for yeah do not leave a shower at all yeah the the gap right in front of the basket is pretty tight I mean for as long as the hole is almost 400 foot you pretty much have to have that Heiser just perfectly right in that gap an eagle is actually throwing a mid-range why this hole oh my god yeah no he's not he threw a mid-range on this hole I was on the camera right behind the basket and as soon as I saw that roll up to the basket I was like this dude just threw a mid-range I was cool and yeah that's just mind-blowing that's a first Clayton catches the tree it looked like it was gonna skip up nicely to the basket but a little bit of bad luck there and this is the second out of the three holes that kind of pop out of the woods and are more in the open and a lot of times will be playing around but no wind and then you come out here and it's just howling yeah and you don't know what sorrow these three holes are brutal in the window sure but you'll feel the wind throughout the rest the horses yeah holes and so would it messes with you but it looks pretty calm to that yep though had a nice shot there I think he's right next to Clayton I see a little bit in front of them there shows Chuck trying to play safe looked like yeah I don't be able to salvage it three there yeah his game plan was party get three on this old though yeah he doesn't have the distance that these guys do he does no not yes I'm knocking him yeah the Eagles yeah excessive eagle and Greg Oh Clayton with a fantastic putt absolute death putt right behind the baskets actually a because water down your right a little ditch area that was some good putts this round oh yeah I'm liking it I love it I love good but that's probably one of my favorite things have seen this cough honestly oh look at the confidence from Bo you walk that and he knew it from the start right that's that's what we call the swagger walk right there yep yeah don't smile don't smile oh yeah you started to smile you starting to smile a little bit alright but you're nothing is far Eagle with his just insane birdie yeah that's stupid yeah oh nice bird but that's gonna conclude our front nine we've got Eagle McMahon sitting two strips ahead of Bo and Greg Clayton Lawson rich why not too far behind but yeah tune in for the back nine that'll be coming out real soon right after this yeah - Doug let's get it
