what is up everybody we are back with the 41st annual Norman pro-am coverage my name is Gabriel Dao and this is Bobby Cox how's it going everyone this tournament is brought to you by senior disc golf and Noble Hardware driven by end of a champion discs as well Kota Hatfield so far is leading the pack at 4-under par we got Alex Savage fresh off the advanced win making the feature card first round at 200 Park keeping up with the big boys Billy angles gonna be at even and then we got Nick bubble at too big so going straight into it this is going to be Holt in this is a par-4 429 feet this one you're really just trying to get up this hill there's a bunch of guardian trees just kind of taken the straight line out of play mostly if you guys are really gonna be throwing bacony flex or a forehand over the pond on the left side to get themselves into position for their birdie yeah as long as you can get past those trees you're set up pretty well to get the birdie but if you hit those trees and drop right into the middle it's not very tricky yeah yeah Coto puts himself in a decent position there he's gonna be on that left side he might be a little bit pinched off there's a pretty big tree slash bush on that left side and Alex Alex has a monster for him yeah he's got a fantastic forehand and that's no accurate and he throws it so far and it's yeah and that's kind of a sketchy play on this hole too because if you get some turnover which happens sometimes I mean even go right into that water yeah you trust the over stability of that disc and got up there looks like we got Nick throw-in a similar line and wow yeah he's in prime position that is a crud I make that far that was yeah well I've never seen him at Duncan while we filmed them and he was just don't over all the trees yeah that was an absolute crush from Nick and this is a common thing to see is one players going for that big over-the-top shot will catch the canopy of that tree in the middle there and it's not a bad position to be in Alex tell what happened to Ono I actually almost stabbed myself in the back with a tree limb yeah literally I felt it poking in my side as I started to step back to follow the disc I was like dude I'm about to literally have to go to the hospital you know people say being a cameraman is a pretty soft job but I disagree especially especially at golf cameramen shut up to the PG a cameraman - seriously I almost get hit with golf balls that's even more scary Kota makes a nice birdie there don't move him to you 500 par he's killing it there's gonna be Alex for the birdie as well no doubt oh yeah a Shou yeah that's I guess that's kind of getting a Senator joke but it's it you have to know yeah if you guys haven't checked it out check out Alex savages in the bag it's on YouTube Michelle Michelle going on one two one down yeah Nick with a furry as well hole 11 this is part three 215 feet there is a double mando so you can't go over the top on the left side or the right side you have to hit this gap here or throw and over the top shot straight down the gut which I'm sure will see codeathon yeah why not but you will just want to fill this gap throw a mid-range or fairway driver whichever disc you're comfortable with something that flips up flat and just rides straight yeah if you hit that those line of trees there I mean you can easily kick straight backwards into that OB water so you gotta be really careful yep and coat it with a really nice shot it shouldn't be that easy doing that yeah okay for him is literally like the easiest place I'm so good at those summers and it never seems like it's gonna go that far no and it's just nice give us good yeah and Alex took an unfortunate kick on the left side but made the mando he should be able to pitch up for his three from there like Nick's going fairway driver and that was looking really nice it was flexing over to that left side but just barely nicked the right side yeah he's gonna be in some trouble on the left rough Billy appear in the gap it's going dead center and oh that's actually a really good tree because I was fading down a hill on the left side I mean it's a good play as well just throw it high and straight and I mean the baskets right underneath those trees so if you crash into the trees you're gonna be right next to the basket how X with a really nice little putter forehand shot there yeah and they got a pretty pretty doable gap there I thought I mean way worse position yeah but he should be able to salvage the three from there this is gonna be Kota for two I'll he's feeling himself now isn't it yeah he's 6-under par through 11 I can't stress like how hard this course really is - yeah it's there's a lot of trouble it requires a lot of difficult shots and a lot of scary Obi's and it's not easy no Nick's stoked from making a putt there saves is three we got Billy with it - I don't move him to 200 par there's gonna be Alex to save the three you can see how Wendy's gotten out here yeah it's as the day went on it just got windier and windier and windier especially by this pollen - yeah it's like every five minutes the wind increased by like one mile per hour right a whole 12 this is a par-3 270 feet this is one of the easier holes out here but it does have some danger as you can see you're thrown over the pond here most of these guys gonna be going with a sharp knife Heiser over the right side and just trying to spike it next to the basket and then the forehand play is very much there as well so yeah I may or may not but definitely did throw a forehand roll or don't accident right in the middle this pond I witnessed that it's not fun to watch coat it with a really nice shot they're throwing that spike hyzer he's gonna be about 25 feet that's got that carry left a little bit yeah I got a crazy wind bounce yeah that's not gonna be runnable unless you're just feeling super crazy yeah we got Alex if you had the forehand this is the play my opinion you just kind of jam it into the hillside absolutely can I get it out of the out of the wind you know he does it just fine yeah he's gonna be up on the hill a little bit of a scary putt that should be able to make the two there this is Nick he's gonna be right over there nice too Billy no it's just a little bit too low that's a scary putt though yeah I mean that hello mrs. mandible there that's the mess you want how's the second lesson was pensa code makes good for the-- birdie it's like we missed Billy and Nick spuds Billy actually went in the water OB I remember that so he took a he's taking a bogey here oh well yeah Nick saves three though that will keep him at one big oh yeah he's spitting it out right now yep yeah such a scary pipe yeah hole 13 this is a park for 495 feet there is two gaps you can hit there is a forehand route on the left side which is a little bit more risky because you have to water there and then the drop zone is not easy at all so that's definitely more dangerous the right side play actually is equally more as dangerous I think I think it's more dangerous be honest with them you just step away something straight through it so as long as you get over the pond or past the pond you want to ideally be on that right side to give yourself a little Heiser skip look to the basket because there's a lot of trees guarding the basket on that left side Oh Koda I believe is safe there it was actually safe I actually couldn't believe it when I saw it yeah yeah if you get any fade at all with that backhand it's most likely going into the water half and this is the play for me at least I mean it's wide open the gaps a lot bigger just to hunt it you just have to throw it high with something over stable and you're gonna end up on that right side and give yourself a nice look for your birdie this whole setup really really well for Nick oh yeah oh no that's going to straight though clears the pond is gonna be in bounds but he's gonna be in some rough on that left side and I mean on the left side in general it's not fun and then you add the rough into that and that's that's a lot of trees the dogs you have a very difficult up shot and Billy playing that middle route just perfectly yeah that's that's exactly what you want he'll have an easy little up and down there there's a nice tunnel on the right side that you can hit this is Cota taking that tunnel on the right side and absolutely parks it yeah well done I don't know if you mentioned it but that fence on the right side comes into play - yeah it is a lot of it quite a bit yeah yeah if you if you end up hitting a tree on the right side and you're on the right side of the fence you are ope so you have to be careful about that just fighting through leaves yeah but he finding the way up there closer than Cota beats happenin for the birdie Alex oh no it's gonna be well short looks like he caught a root there cuz I was definitely gonna get at least a little bit of this kid here's Nick's third shot and yeah as you can see he had nothing a foreign roller from there is yeah you know you have nothing yeah any any other one yeah that left side is so difficult to find the basket nice bogey putt but he saves the bird under the bogey maybe that can get him some hunting momentum yeah Alex makes the makes the birdie there that's a really nice putt I'll move him to 4-under par and then me at Kota moving to 8 yeah kotas just on a different level right now yeah he's playing some League off hole 14 this is a par 3 348 feet off the tee there's a hill so you have to kind of it kind of tricks you in Delhi because if you give it too much height it can fade waiter waiter Lee left yeah that's not your trees on the left and you have nothing yeah but you really just want to throw it even with that hill as hard as you can you want it to carry straight so ideally I'd say a fairway driver and distance driver that the straightest thing you have in your bag yeah I think Cotto was trying to go that high but he was trying a way more turn than he got heymy he hardly got any at all and just faded right into those trees yeah that's gonna be a tough spot Alex going with a slight Annie yet still nasally over stable but he'll be have an easy layup for the three it's not necessarily a runnable putt because the basket is on a hill so you can get some nasty rollaways and billy did a nice job adjusting but just a little bit too much turn on it and he'll just be pitching out to save three this is a hard left Eli that is but he's executing this really nicely and just turned over just a little bit too much and he'll be pitching up for three there Alex just laying up there yeah Smart Play and they clean up as well here's coda just trying to get out of these woods and that'll do this has to be so frustrating yeah he's gotten nothing oh no that is the absolutely worst of events I mean I that's kind of like I mean he had to do that like yeah I don't really see how else you want to play that yeah just needed like me bit more of an overstable putter so that way you can level out by now no yeah and another big shout out to DMR for being a coverage sponsor and helping us get out here to Norman to film this tournament yeah they do an awesome job go check it out yep a whole 15 this is a part three its 390 feet this is a bonus birdie if there ever is one like the gap is first off you have a low ceiling off the tee so you can't really go over the top you really are just throwing something straight through the gap and you want to carry as far as you can and then the basket is on a hill with the water on the left side so most of these guys are going to be playing this 430 you just want to hit that gap get in the open area and give yourself a long to look slash easy up for 30 yeah and you say there's no the top shot but I gotta give a huge shout out to Nick Papineau and you're right there really isn't one but he found one and he parked it and took it - yeah with the tongue with the tomahawk somehow it's fantastic Nick Oh clears it as long as you clear it you're happy yeah you either easy up and down there and these guys are making this over-the-top shot look easy yeah that gap that's so small very small and there's so much in the way it's there's so much danger because if you clip that tree you're - is like 60 feet in for the d-pad well even if you do clitter he's still God make sure he gets like enough turn on it sir 9 that was on the left like Billy almost was yeah Alex that's a really nice up shot he'll be right there next to Kota his scramble game is just so good dude yeah he doesn't really I mean I said he has the mental game of a 10 year player but he's got this scramble game of a 10 year player absolutely like his he can get out of stuff save par like nobody's business I mean that's just such a huge part of disc golf - ooh billion was thrown it in getting another little rollaway not quite as bad as a preview so this is gonna be Nick for two just a little bit low or 4:30 Thursday oh I knew it he almost knew it before I even came out Lisa yeah and now Alex sneaking over that RIM getting a stroke on Kota yeah yes Billy saves part of their and this next hole is terrifying just so everyone can get a little warning making code of both tapping into bogeys unfortunate but not a terrible score on that hole you can definitely take a lot bigger numbers there yeah hole 16 this is a parfait and like Bobby said it is scary this is a tiny island that you have to hit you can play the bailout route just play it way right there is a shorter pin on the or another pain not necessarily shorter that you can play for and just pitch up for three but this is this is definitely it's super hard cuz you gotta hit that hillside and if you don't you're gonna just soul right past the basket and Alex just played that perfectly yeah he's dropping in the birdie Vader that's perfect the landing zone is just me you gotta be so precise it's crazy roast you're taking you know an extra two strokes yeah and I believe if you do go in the water there's a drop zone which is almost a harder shot than this shot so a lot of these guys are just reaching if they do go in the water yeah exactly so I mean you can take some massive numbers on solo and Kota is just playing smart he's taking that bailout play on that right side just making sure to keep it in bounds and he he told me he's okay with taking a three the entire turn on the hole because I mean you can take some huge numbers you can skip off that back side the right in the water and be left with a ricci which is terrifying yeah so and like that well I shot I mean it was pretty much perfect and it's still only like you know seven feet from the water Nadia I'm like four feet from the water yeah Kota he's good for the par there it's a great score on this hole it's gonna be Billy for the - yes sir oh yeah I don't move them to 2-under par yeah I don't think any other card out here this day had a better performance on collective oil on this hole I mean three people were within 20 feet yeah you know Bowie's either nobody doesn't out-of-bounds that's birdie birdie birdie par that's insane awesome and here we got some we got some the swamp monster man that's some disc fisherman actually that guy said I didn't catch his name but he said he pulled out a hundred discs that day and like your stance and 300 total in like last two days that's insane that's what happens when you have a name weekend on really of course a whole 17 this is a par three 256 feet this is the easiest hole on the course you're really just throwing a super shape shape super sharp spike hyzer like we see Alex here doing and you want to be on the top of that hill there or crash a little bit early but if you do go long you're pretty much guaranteed a par because there's some steel yeah on the backside there yeah the only thing that makes this whole somewhat difficult is just the fact that you have really no idea what the basket is on the tee box yeah cuz it's basically it's like straight left but you're fortunate to throw it straight so you gotta have a hook over real quick yeah Nick this is looking nice oh you gonna be a little bit short but should be able to salvage the two Kota done on a similar line whoo yeah yeah he's gonna be right there I might have some trees in the way he's Alex just a little bit too low there the heads a birdie putt it'll move him to one big so that's happen in the park that'll move him to 8-under par you got Billy absolutely parking it needs happen in for that birdie as well this is gonna move him to 3-under par he's probably tied with Nick fell below in goofball in the goofball meter yeah I kind of forgot about I I put Alex above them yeah like I but I mean really oh it's beautiful yeah he's fun no hole 18 this is a par 3 390 feet last hold the first round this hole is tricky there's a super tight gap initially off the tee it's very similar to hold one just a lot further yes and tighter gap and tighter gap yeah and yeah as you can see yeah it's just hard to get yourself to throw it full power what you know the gap this small yeah there's also to be noted up by that pavilion on that right side there is like a OB pant line yeah it's pretty swampy and we saw some people kind of cruise over there so don't go too far right yeah yeah the plate here is really just through a distance driver out there you want a soft turn like kotas thrown right here well this is actually excellent with a nice stable finish and wow that's exactly what you want right there yeah again pin-high is pretty rare on this one yeah that's awesome Alex and this is looking like a nice shot as well that's it yeah right there next to Kota even close right that one's solo yeah I'm surprised even with all the way up there throwing 390 like 20 feet off the ground or less than that yeah 15 and Billy just didn't really have room to get the height on that forehand so I just kind of pinched out in the open and that is not an easy putt for bogey no those rocks are tricky yeah there's Guardian rocks yeah I actually love the rocks on this hole yeah it's cool Nick just laying up this is gonna be Kota for the to finish off the round with a birdie just a little bit too low yeah just think quite full would commit to that putt when I had a little bit of wind in his head too like I was really this first bad putt yeah all of a sudden all the round been really yellows this is gonna be Billy to save the floor early yes and he's gonna finish the round at 2-under par yeah I mean just being under pars is pretty solid ya know you know you're not too upset about that not bad it looks kind of back you know you're planting us koto the master of well Oklahoma disc golf yeah exactly ain't code it's happening for par as well looks like we got Nick doing the same thing he's gonna finish that one day stern that Stern that suplies cooking he's betting up all right well that's gonna conclude the front early first round at the 41st annual moment pro-am so far we got Kota Hatfield leading the pack at 8-under par shooting the hot round of 50 we've got Emerson Keith won back at 7 down making his way back down to Oklahoma you know Marshall blanks at 6-under par that we got Steve manie's at 5-under par the Searle should have an awesome card we're moving over to a different Park it's Griffin Park a little bit more open literally right across the street it is longer so should be a fun round to watch yeah if you guys enjoyed make sure you hit that like and subscribe helps us out a lot you can check us out on Instagram Twitter and Facebook and we'll see you guys for round 2
