Welcome back everyone to the 2026 Bottle Lake Open. We're here in Christ Church, New Zealand with the Tour Down Under, brought to you by MVP Disc Sports. I'm Sarah Hokum here with Chandler Ray in the booth. Hopefully you joined us for that front nine. Now we're on the back out at Bottle Lake Forest Park. It's a little magpie right there. They have some really cool birds here in New Zealand. [music] >> Yeah, they do. Lots of bird watching for the bird watchers out there. >> Also, this is part of the Gothro tour um presented by Prodigy, so you can get some points uh that count all year towards their finale. Oo, we're getting points. Yay. >> And we'll take a look at our leaderboard here. We've got uh New Zealand's very own Allison Tweety leading the pack after nine holes. Sophia, Donica, and I at even par. Uh Taylor Chosik at one over. Sarah Hook at two over. There's Haley Flint off too. The local legend also making a push. >> Oh yeah, and we're on hole 10. This is a par three, 253 ft. Turnover shot or a forehand line. This is uh maybe one of the only holes that doesn't have mean out of bounds. >> Yeah, it's playing as one of the easier ones. If there is a must get, this is probably it. >> Yeah, this one's like a free-for-all. This one feels normal. Nice. Have like a little break from the out of bounds. >> Sophia going with the destroyer. >> Very nice for her. Non Look at that. >> Absolute park job. >> Park job. Wow. For not having a a sidearm. >> Yeah. You're not sidearm. [laughter] >> No, she's got a great sidearm. We're learning that every [clears throat] every hole, actually. >> Yeah. And Taylor's going to go with her zone. I believe she uh hit cage on this hole last year. >> Pulls it a little left. Hits wood on it this year, but that's okay. She'll have an approach to try to save the par. Please tell me it's not a crave. >> It's a crave. >> It's a crave. This one, this one's our Eclipse line, so it's a little more stable. >> Different crave. Got a variety of craves in the bag. >> And it was a great shot. And I'm going to be going with my Hix. >> What's the speed on that? >> Uh I think it's a 10 speed. >> Okay. >> I treat it like it's a fairway though. >> Sure. >> Oh, that was mean. Oh man, that was going to get a skip up. I wondered what happened from the tea. >> Yeah, I was wondering why I was so >> You still got a look though. >> Still a birdie look. Little edge of circle. Little bit into circle too. >> Taylor with her zone. She throws this one a lot and she's good with the touch with it. I'm just outside the circle looking to get under par. Oh, right side. >> Dang. Valiant effort. Taylor cleaning up the par. I'm looking for my first birdie of the round. Please go in. >> It does. I guess I don't have to beg for it, do I? No. >> No. You're a world champ. You just make it happen. Little par tap in. And Sophia with the short birdie also. Well, I guess she's got a couple. She got there's her second birdie of the round. [music] On to hole 11. This is 308 ft. Obie on the left, but this is a tight gap and [music] it turns a little bit slow turn to the right. So really difficult like late flip for [music] a backhand but also so tight that unless sidearm is your deal you probably aren't going to want to throw a sidearm. Sophia going with her J which is a stable midh gets a kick ends up OB in those blackberry bushes. Such a difficult backhand line. I'm throwing a crave. And that was absolutely piered inside the circle. Look, >> I'm stoked. I didn't have a look like that in practice. And we're going to see Taylor going with a Luna. Little turnover shot through the gap. >> Wow. Wow. >> Get through everything. >> Wow. Look, another look inside the circle for birdie. >> I'll be throwing the zone SS trying to get that similar turnover shot that Taylor did. Kind of got it over a little bit too early. um kicked into a terrible side of the fairway. Sophia doesn't have much from here. >> Oh, there it is. That's a big lane. Actually, >> the other [laughter] angle faked us out. >> It's less impressive now that I see what her look is. >> Yeah, she did. [laughter] >> No, that's still a great upshot. No, >> that'll be >> You made me look like I had a look. That's a scam. [laughter] >> Oh, there's your shot. Oh my goodness. >> Okay. Well, I kind of shanked it. That's my own fault. >> Well, dang it. >> The angle was a little bit weird. It looked easier on camera than it was. I promise. >> From 50. >> I thought I was going to dunk it. >> Good effort. Yeah, it was good height and speed, all the things minus just middle chains. >> Yeah, the most important part of the equation. Oh, that's what they look like. Dang, that was a good birdie to grab. >> Yeah, two in a row. I'm starting to get a get a flow. Back to even. Taylor's got a shot here, too. little tentative. Doesn't quite give it everything she needed and but she'll have a tap in. This one's playing as a pretty tough hole actually. Seventh hard on the course. a quarter of a stroke over par and just the just my birdie and then Allison Tweety got this one. She's racking them up. That would be She got the last one, too. So, two in a row for her as well. Watch out, folks. She's coming. All right, on to hole 12. We have our tightest gap hit of the whole course. Um, I think it looks a little bit bigger on camera than it really is, but it's only 236 ft, but you have to make it through that initial gap or you're left with nothing. There is also OB that comes up on the left side of that basket, so you have to be careful. >> I'm going relay on a hiser trying to pop it straight. >> And it does pop up straight. >> I was pretty happy with that. But there is [laughter] a tree there, unfortunately. I'm mostly just trying to hit that gap. >> Yeah, as long as you get through that gap and you're in bounds, then it's it's pretty easy to scramble from anywhere up there. Challenger for Taylor. >> Straight down the middle. >> Peered. >> What a shot. >> That was delicious. >> Sophia going back to the J. She's been throwing this a lot for the tight holes out here. >> Yeah. She said that it just is it's really controllable for her in her hand. And I could see why. Yeah. Birdie look. >> Absolutely hyped. And I'm going with the jawbreaker zone. >> And we're all out the gap. That's actually pretty impressive. >> Wow. Yeah. Four for four. Everybody's in bounds. At least >> I hit the same tree. [laughter] >> Little Annie look from behind the tree. Not a bad result. Just a little bit too much on it. And I've also got a circle two look for birdie. Just touched one of the chains. Just tickled it. That's all I get. >> Taylor, another another birdie look here. Let's see if she can put this one in the chains. >> Dead center. >> There it is. >> Keeping things tied up at the top here. >> Yeah. And that's their her first birdie of the round, which is Yeah, that means you have to be patient out here, I suppose. So, she's finally grabbing grabbing a couple under back to even for her. You have stopped the the tourniquet, the bleeding by getting that par. >> Oh yeah, >> train finally. >> Sophia getting under par with the birdie. Sophia and Taylor get those birdies along with G. Oh, G got this one. She's a G. She is moving on to hole 13. 282 ft to a It's a really tight gap here with a bowl at the green with OB right behind it. Those all those blackberry bushes are lined. There is also OB on the right side. And Taylor's going to be throwing her own straight down the middle. Great shot. Little bit of fade. Oh, she catches that tree a little bit. But there's a look at birdie. Sophia with the J as well. again. >> She catches the same tree a little bit to the right. >> That was looking really good. >> Still a look. >> I'm going to throw a crave. >> Oh, who would have guessed? >> And that was regrettable. I'm OB. >> Catches the tree. Kicks into the blackberries. >> Almost lost that Frisbee, too. Yeah, I got it for you. I got you. >> You You did. Yes. Thank you. I really needed that one. >> And I've got the zone SS. Just trying to throw it straight through the gap. Kind of let it hit the ground and slide up to the basket is kind of my play here. >> Beautiful. That's a look. >> But it catches the tree. The same tree. This is I'm looking for a big fade. This is a crave. It's a kind of a tight look as well. Need to get this close so I can try to save my bogey. >> It's pretty happy with the shot even though I'm outside the circle. >> Yeah, that was a tough angle. >> Birdie look >> another like soft push putt kind of thing. Try to land it short if I was going to miss. >> Yeah, I like I love that uh concept. I'm not very practiced with the push putts, but I had to kind of adopt it for this tournament. >> Yeah. So much OB right behind the basket. >> Ooh, that was close. >> Sophia with a birdie look. She's already canned at least one from this distance this round. >> Another death putt also. And she does not care. Taylor with a chance to birdie. Oh man. [sighs] >> And that's the danger of running these putts. >> Dang. She had a that little bit of right miss before and now the right miss is really costing her. That's a bogey. Unfortunately, >> it's really unfortunate to land in the circle and end up with a bogey after a miss. And I'll just tap out of par here. Sophia with that birdie and the only birdie in the field >> and just kind of unfortunate double bogey there. >> Yeah, that OB hurt. >> Progress. It's momentum made visible. A constant push towards perfection. [music] Moment by moment, frame by frame, we're building towards something bigger. The time lapse was my first 12speed driver, but I knew it could be better. So, we went back to [music] the lab, tweaked the feel, the flight, and now it's what it was always meant to be. That's progress. Introducing the retoolled time lapse from the Simon line. No limits. >> [music] [music] [music] >> Bend the reality of what a disc can be and discover ultra [music] soft plastic. This is a 312 ft par three. Um, if you've got the forehand for it, it's a great shape or a turnover line straight down the [music] middle. And once again, OB directly behind the basket. So, you've got to be careful with this one. Sophie up first. This is her eagle L. >> She's trying to take that turnover line kind of. >> Actually, that was her J. My bad. >> Yeah, it's a wooded hole. You should know it's a J. That's true. >> It's in Sophia's hands. >> And I'm taking my origin here, opting for the turnover line. >> Oh, this looks buttery. >> Okay, that's the play, I think. >> Gorgeous. >> I don't quite have the forehand distance for it. >> Can't miss that one. >> Yeah, I mean, I could, but Taylor's going to show us the forehand. >> This is the Nuke OS. kind of clips the tree but gets a good skip down there. >> Yeah, there's another look. >> Yeah, that little mound. You kind of get that extra little fade down the hill if you come up on the left side. >> Yeah, you really want to come up on the left side cuz if you get any further down, you might be going out of bounds. >> I'm throwing a photon. >> It's not a crave. >> I'm looking for a bigger fade here. I push it a little farther left than I want. >> Uh, but that elevation change gives me a trickle down the hill to a putt. >> Yeah, that worked out pretty well for you. >> Sophia scrambling over from this right side utilizing her forehand. >> Non-existent forehand. [laughter] >> If you miss it in for the front kn I I I kind of bagged on Sophia's sidearm. I was like, "Ah, she doesn't use it that much." But we've seen her use it a lot. >> Like every hole, maybe. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> And it's working out great for her. Yeah. >> Pretty much every time. >> Sarah's bid at a birdie. >> It was a very tentative bid. I wasn't too happy with the release, but it's still good height. >> Yeah, it was still going to be a par. >> And Taylor can the birdie putt. >> Sneaks it in that left side. She's got a little roller coaster going though. Birdie bogey. Birdie, it's a fun ride. She's even though. That's pretty good. I mean, even par out here is absolutely going to work. Sophia with a good scramble there. >> Just tapping in the little par. >> Speaking of tapins, >> there's a real tap in. Finally, I'm back to even. Yeah, great birdies by you, Totu, and Tay, the only two in the field. And we're on to hole 15. It's a par4, 453 feet. This tight tunnel first. You want to land about here and then throw maybe the same shot to try to land close to the basket and get a birdie putt. There is Obi on the right side, but the trees are the real struggle here. And I'll be going with the zone SS just trying to get it to go straight down the fairway and fade in front of the wall. And it never really gets the flip. That's a great result though. Very fortunate kick. Taylor going with a buzz. Early release and a unfortunate kick. Eagle L for Sophia. Oh no, that is a kick out of bounds. And I've been over on that right side and there is not a lot to work with even from the relief from the out of bounds area. Yeah, the OB's kind of tucked into the trees, so you're just left out of bounds with a tree wall in your way. >> It's not very fun. >> Bud, I'm going relay. I'm trying to just hiser flip this up the gap straight. I'm pretty happy with the shot. Gets a little kick to the right. Not too shabby. >> Taylor ends up having to putt over to the fairway here. She doesn't have much else, so really smart play. She'll be up again. Now she's set up to throw the fairway and >> she's going to get that same mean kick out of bounds right. >> Brutal. So small look, small lane here for Sophia throwing her third. gonna end up jump putting or just putting to the fairway. >> Leaves herself a little pinched on the left side. >> She might have rushed that shot just a little bit. >> Yeah. Sometimes when you're making decisions, it's hard to make you have so you end up by the time you make the decision, you don't have much time to have a routine. >> Yeah. >> Oh man, you were lined up so good. >> I know. I was trying to hit just a little bit left of that and let it flip how it did, but it flipped up a little too soon on me. that that middle tree is not necessary as far as I'm concerned. >> Yeah, it's right in my way. >> It wasn't there. I was getting a birdie. >> Yeah, I had a tiny lane. Um just trying to throw a hiser through it and it ends up on the right side inbounds. >> Is having to take a weird stance here to try to get down the fairway. This is her fourth and she gets a little kick off to the right. leaves her a little bit pinched over there again. And Taylor's grabbing another zone it looks like. >> This is a really tough lie. >> Just a pitch out. >> That's all you really got from over there. >> Yeah. She can't move much else. And you're kind of in an awkward position here. Yeah, this is something that I need to practice more. >> I was worried you were going to hit your hand on that tree. >> Well, I wasn't. And now that I think about it, I should have been, but I left it a little high. Caught some limbs. Had good distance control on it at least, but didn't quite get the chance to get up there. >> Taylor still here in trouble. I mean, you can see just nothing. Not even really room to swing. She's having to put her body in position. and gets a weird reaction. So, she's outside the circle still and Sophia's going try to forehand in on the bigger gap on the left side. >> This is her fifth row. >> Catches a tree. >> It's a long look. >> Yeah, it's a really guarded basket up there. If you're not right in the middle of the fairway, you don't have too much of a look at it. >> I'm off to the right. >> And you found a little tree to hang out in. >> Yeah, you know me. >> Loves the trees. The trees love her. >> Little range approach shot. >> You're up there for a par. >> Yeah, I'm really stoked to have a par putt. >> I'm just going to lay up for the bogey. >> Yeah. >> Going to just jump putt my zone up there. There was a little lane on that side that I think was better than the forehand play. So, >> we've watched a lot of bushwhacking here. >> Yeah. >> Oh, >> cage again. >> Can't connect. This is going to be a big number for her. Sophia also not making that putt. And these are going to erase all the birdies. Quad bogey eight for Taylor. >> This hole really showed its teeth on us. >> Yeah, [sighs] it was one that I wasn't really too worried about anybody backing up like that. >> Yeah, triple for Sophia. >> We really showed what kind of numbers you can take here. I'll be getting the bogey as well. >> But there was a birdie in the field. Can you take a guess? Allison. Oh, you called it. >> What [music] a goat. And we're hole 16, 302 ft. Uh, this is a tunnel shot with a double mando, but we do have a little bit of space in between the mandos to hit that gap. [music] And there is OB pretty close behind the basket, so you want to kind of land short. Let it slide up there if you can. Is it a crave? >> It is. I'm getting good at this game. quite turned enough. >> Yeah, exactly. I would have liked a little more turn, but there's looks from over there. So, >> Oh, yeah. It's a look. >> Guess what I'm throwing. >> Hex. >> Yeah, my only MVP disc. You had to know that one. And I'm actually I think I was going to try to ace run a little bit, but kind of short hits the tree. But that's okay. It's a birdie look. I mean, birdie looks flies like an MVP discs. >> Oh, okay. [laughter] >> Next up, Sophia's throwing her Jay once again. >> Her Jay loves the wooded holes. >> Oh, this looks good. >> That's looking great. >> Wow. >> A little bit of slide down there, but that's safe. >> Close to the out of bounds, but she'll have a birdie look. >> Taylor with a zone SS. >> We love a zone SS. gets the turn. >> She's playing the slide a little bit. I I like that. >> Yeah, really smart play. She's in just inside the circle. >> It's an awkward spot to run, but managed what she could. >> Yeah, Taylor for birdie. >> What a pot, >> man. >> That was good. That was a good play. And that takes a lot of like I mean that's a true professional to take an eight and then just go and birdie that hole. >> That's really impressive actually. It's a great wipe that >> Sophia doesn't quite get that bounce back that she was looking for >> and I don't either. [laughter] >> Dang. Oh >> Taylor showed us up. >> It was farther than it looked. >> I think it was like 20 ft and it was it was a pretty easy putt. >> Sophia cleaning up the par. I'll be honest, I I biffed it. >> It's tough, you know, sometimes that rhythm, you get a little nervous. >> I did I went a little bit fast on the on the push out there and left it a little nose down instead of flat. >> So, Taylor with that birdie, the only one in the field, but she's on a roller coaster onto 17. It's a par three, 367. It's pretty open [music] off the tea, and you're really just doing what you can to get as close to this guarded basket. There's wind coming into play probably for the first time on the course in the back at least. Taylor up first and she's going with the buzz. I think she's just trying to shoot it straight at the basket. We had a little bit of a headwind that didn't get her the flip I think she was looking for. I'm going with a Eclipse orbital. My Gorbital. You throw that thing pretty well. I like that one for you. >> Yeah, it gets a full flex. I'm still pretty far away from the basket. There's still some pretty good distance though. And I'm going Leopard three. Oh, look at that. Gets the flip up. >> Little bit of a skittle. That's inside the circle. Wow. And Sophia is going straight power at it with the Eagle O. >> Ooh, look at that. Oh, it's pretty. It might be obstructed, but she's way up there. What a shot. >> Yeah, that basket's a little bit guarded. You really want to be in the middle of those bushes. >> Taylor with an approach with her banger GT. Oh, she's she's really trying to erase those strokes. That was insane. >> She inspired me. I wanted to run it, too. >> It looked pretty close. And we got a couple putts for birdie. And I left it low again. Kind of had the last putt in my head. It's hard to let those go sometimes. >> Told myself, don't leave it low. And of course, what happens is you leave it [laughter] low after that. >> Sophia looking for a window. >> She's got one. >> Ah, the leaves catch it. That should be a tap in par. Yeah, it's playing this one of the harder holes. Seventh hardest mostly because nobody birded it. But I think that's going to change throughout the weekend as people get better at these at playing these holes, get more comfortable with the wind. Once I learn how to putt, [music] I'm coming for that birdie. [laughter] >> And we're on to hole 18. And this is a par4 where you have to get in bounds over that road off the tea. Otherwise, you go to the drop zone. And then we're coming up on this uh OB line here. You must cross the second line of flags in order to go to the drop zone for the island or you have to make it inbounds on this small island. So, you got some decisions to make if you don't have a clean T-shot. Also had a crosswind here that we haven't seen in practice yet. This is a raptor for ta from Taylor. That one hits the ground a little bit early and skips her right into that bush. Not really an ideal landing zone. >> Yeah, she's probably going to have to lay out from there. I'm going with a photon. This is really tough. Lefty line. should just backhand it. [laughter] And it catches that tree, but it's safe. And I'm going with the hexock off the tea here. That's a castlast mold. >> Discraft. >> Oh, dishcraft. My bad. Oops. >> Same thing. And I'm just keeping it low, trying to not let the wind really take it too much. I know I've got good spin on the disc, so it'll go somewhere. That's great to be in front of those those bushes though. You have a look to go to go go go for the green >> and a runup even. >> This is a halo destroyer. >> She kind of pulls that off to the right a little bit. Skips and bounds and then she's pinched off right there. >> Yeah, she probably can't go for the green from that position either. Another We might see another layup. Uh, speaking of layups, that's my play. Even if I throw a clean shot likely, this is a tempo. Trying to get as close to those lines as possible without going over. And I was happy with that. >> Taylor's going to be pitching out. >> Yeah, tough spot. That's her zone. Even closer to the out of bounds line, but she is inbounds with a look to save the par. >> I'll be going zone as well. Trying to shoot the island from there. And that just immediately got wind drop. That was rude. [sighs] >> Oh man, coming up short. >> I got bullied. Sophia having to just pitch out as well. >> That drop was even worse than I remembered in person. >> No. Well, now you know what happened. At least. >> Yeah. >> Are you going to change your play tomorrow? >> No. >> Zone again. >> Well, maybe if the wind's different. >> Oh, yeah. I'm going pyro. I'm about 200 feet away from the basket. But we have a crazy left to right wind here. I was thinking the left to right wind would kind of hold that zone straight. It usually does, but instead it took it to the ground. So, >> Sophia also approaching AVR3. >> It's going to drop right in there, hit the hay bale, and keep her in. >> I like that play to kind of play that deep side. don't have to be as precise and those hay bells just kind of keep you in Taylor going with the zone kind of misses that back stop there a little high. >> Yeah, I think that crosswind gave her a little more distance than she was expecting. So, drop zone putts for both you and Taylor. >> I'll be trying to save my par. Oh my gosh, that was so close. Scammed all around. Taylor laying it up, taking her medicine. Sophia with a par look. >> Great putt. She's not missing putts today. We never doubted it. A little headwind here. Go to the spin putt. And happy it was a little bit right. The g the basket caught good there. >> It did. It did a good job. So, the double for Taylor, the single for Chandler, and Sophia and I get the pars. No birdies on that one either. It was the third hardest hole. Really tough hole to finish on. So, man, everybody's over par this backside. We all had kind of some multi- bogeies except for you. That's good. Just >> Yeah. Cover the singles at least, but there was too many of them. So, >> yeah. >> Hopefully we can clean that up tomorrow. [music] >> Yeah. Nobody under par today unfortunately in our field but that's you know when we play the golds that's kind of how it happens. So tomorrow we'll have two Kiwis joining us on the lead card. [music] Um unfortunately we did a mishap where we had a incorrect score reported by Sophia so she will be down on the chase card tomorrow and we'll have Allison and Haley with us and then Sarah Hokum and I back on the lead card. >> Awesome. Well that was fun chowder. >> It was a good time. I think we might have to do this a few more times, but I think we need a name. >> We do need a name. [music] >> If you got an idea, just go ahead and put it in the comments. We might we might take you up on it. >> We need a good commentary. Do a name for us here. >> Big shout out to MVP Disports for their support the Gothro Tour Down Under. They're aligned with their educational and growing the sport goals in other countries. So, we appreciate their support and we appreciate you guys for tuning in. Join us tomorrow for round two.
