hello everybody welcome to the post-produced coverage of the disc craft Great Lakes open around one feature card coverage my name is Gabriel Dao and I'm here with Bobby Cox what's up everyone and we're gonna be bringing you the play-by-play commentary for this first round for the card today we've got Liz car SIPP Ian out of Michigan Paige bukas out of Emporia Kansas Sarah hokum last year's champion gonna try and defend that title out of Caldwell Idaho and then we've got Vanessa van Dyken out of San Diego California so got a nice little card going yeah this is a beautiful course a lot of hills pretty open and really a good chance for these girls to start crushing yeah this is the toboggan toboggan disc golf course aka elevation station as I like to call it but this first hole hole one it's 447 feet par-3 downhill it's a crush you can throw either a turnover shot or a forehand most of these ladies are just gonna be playing up try and get closer to a circle to and give themselves a long look for the two yeah but a three is definitely nothing to be disappointed on on this first hole I mean that's one of the coolest last names I've ever heard just just saying yeah it sounds like it sounds like something off this like a Star Trek or something yeah lieutenant Carr soup he's definitely intimidating I can tell you that right now yeah I dig it was team diss craft looks like she's pulling out her ESP nuke here turnover line and she's gonna be in that tall grass to the right but she should have a somewhat easier up shot to make the par there Paige Bjork is defending world champion really her game is just gotten so good over the last three or four years mm-hmm Paige going he's going in for off the tee here yeah kind of same mistake as Liz just made yeah she got hers a little bit lower and unfortunately got the cut roll to the left side and that tall grass there she's gonna have a long upshot we got Sarah hokum this shot is set up pretty nicely for her in her forehand yeah I mean she's got one of the best four hands in the in the game honestly yeah so she's stoned her trace and again big shout out to Sarah for doing the commentary for our ledgestone coverage she did a yeah amazing job oh yeah yeah she's wide open looking there yep she'll be able to make three from there vanessa is team anova and it looks like she's lining up that turnover line yeah using that TI nuke and this one like my favorite starting holes on this court or Alan's course but like in general yeah I just like downhill starting holes exactly it's just scenic and you get to crush one but I mean it feels like a crush because it's downhill but it makes you feel good about the whole whole round but yeah do it and that is a great shot from Vanessa she's gonna have an outside circle to look for her birdie oh yeah Paige putting it right there in the circle about ten quite like ten feet nearly throws it in we got Liz come up a little bit up and up that's about ten feet as well yep we got Sarah got way up that fairway yep and she'll be tapping in for par yeah it's so cool watching Sarah like that are like those like turn over forehand shots that she does yes she's so calm folks she's like the most comfortable with this turnover for line shots yeah anybody in the game yeah she I mean those are so touchy and really impressive yeah honestly Liz makes good for par Paige taps in for par as well yeah kind of what we really get par yeah was where she was at it's really like what we expected on this whole I mean it's so far it's really hard to get up there for a birdie but yeah it's open enough to where you can definitely save power from pretty much anybody or anywhere absolutely all right hole - this is a par-4 415 feet very very uphill super it's the opposite of hole one basically I mean you're throwing way uphill it's playing a lot further than 415 feet that's for sure along with the elevation the fairway is very tight as well so these ladies really just want to try and bite off as much distance as they can stay in the fairway because if you end up left or right you were gonna be pinched off and it's gonna be really hard to even make par from there so just stay in the fairway give yourself a good look for your second shot and you should be able to make birdie yeah you got page going ballista Pro go with the high-speed ditch trying to climb that hill as far as possible and that is just fine yeah I mean like playing on a fairway like like this uphill it's so important to be in the fairway because if you're in the rough and get that feel like a standstill there's a good chance on you like making up to the basket yeah and the footings so awkward riding uphill too so it's not fun we got Vanessa throwing that Avenger SS and that is just too turned over she's gonna be in the bushes on the right and she's gonna have some really tough footing here and that's about all she could do from there yeah she had a good angle Yeah right in the fairway looks like Paige my grip lucked out a little bit I mean I'm sure she wasn't going for that gap on the Reich right now yeah why not yes Sarah's second shot flashes the chains yeah it's up there yeah she's gonna be right there and Liz turning it over a little bit too much as well she's gonna be right over there next to Paige good bid yep should we tap in for par from there yeah that's mean putting the elevator basket on this hole - that's elevated everything yeah you imagine if you roll down oh my or the box and edge and roll all the way back down mail that come back there's gonna be terrifying for Vanessa there oh yeah yeah that's that's super scary yeah here we got Liz just comes a little bit short yeah here is Vanessa give it a good bid but just skipped off the cage and she's gonna have it's gonna feel like the same distance being uphill absolutely oh man it's just a little bit low as well it's hard having a elevator putt like the earlier holes of a tournament you know already have some nerves going got cameras on you and you're just trying to and when you're practice putting you know you're usually practicing on a regular exactly so that's Sarah great all really nice birdie making her way under par after the second hole and that's unfortunate double there hopefully she can bounce back after that Liz with the par nothing to complain about Paige as well or no Paige with a bogey yeah all right hole three this is a par four you are transitioning back downhill it is super downhill ideally you want to just try and bite off as much distance as you can get in the middle of the fairway eat that tall patch of grass in the middle of the fairway if you are before that that kind of sets up for a good upshot for your second shot we got Sarah going back with that Trey so she likes it throw a lot telling it to get down and that's gonna be fun yeah that's on that right side and that'll play for her forehand really nicely I think you're really just rying to stay in balance here yeah yeah and like with these like down downhill plays it's like if you barely have the angle wrong when that disc it can just take off the wrong direction yeah that'd be really terrible Paige trying to flex out that bliss of pro looks like it's working pretty nice oh yeah that is crush yeah that's so far she is way down there and she is gonna have a pretty routine up shot from there we got Vanessa with that nuke getting out a little bit too low not quite getting the distance she wants but I think she's in a decent spot yeah it looks like she might've up onto the hill on the right side there so she might be dealing with some awkward footing again but we will see and Liz was not quite an attacking position so she's gonna be on that left side and Vanessa just turning that one over a little bit too much that's gonna be a tricky spot yeah it definitely wasn't like the prime footing there tried to kind of use too much for upper-body to make up for the lack of yeah and that's that tends to be what happened it is when I try to throw in she went through some brush and she's probably dis down to which got a disc that turns a little bit more than usual and it just kind of slowly turned to that rough on the right side yeah a page with a really nice up shot yeah not much you can do from in there the woods the rough is pretty thick over here yeah of course oh absolutely yeah that was a good out from Vanessa see if she can make this putt not quite enough on it just a tad bit more on it your Sara for birdie to go to four three oh yeah Oh moving to 2-under par and she is starting hot Liz making sure that putter is dry as a bone there we go there's nothing like more frustrating than like whenever you're about to putt you feel like a little bit of like slippage like like with your thumb but you just don't want to go wipe it off and you go to the pie anyways and Raph you miss it you're just like I should take my time and wipe that off right and exactly and these ladies are playing with that morning dew right well that morning dew is the word or something to deal with for sure some reason like I never like think it's gonna be there and then it's always there oh yeah hole for this is a par 4 it's 508 feet this is really about position play you really just want to get yourself in position for your second shot because from your second shot you have a super low ceiling as you can see there was a bunch of trees and makes it kind of awkward for your second shot as well because you have the low ceiling plus the uphill shot so yeah you want to put yourself in a position to have a window to have that clean uphill shot yeah in behind the green is super sketchy as well it's got a pretty decent drop-off behind it so you gotta be careful with that as well mm-hmm page 1 plus 2 Pro again should be breaking that out a lot because I've always super long holes mm-hmm and that's gonna be a tricky spot on that left side there's a lot it's like extra low-hanging over there so she's gonna have some branches to contend with let's go and roller yeah injure is good just to do it with ya a really nice play and she's gonna be on that left or right side close to Sarah I believe we got Vanessa going nuke again there's a good shot right there not quite getting the distance she probably wants but hopefully she can find a window here yeah and she was actually in a really nice spot had a nice little window there and there's gonna be right there inside the circle yeah probably 25 yeah Sarah just didn't have a whole lot of room for the for the forehand yeah she tried to throw skip Heiser didn't quite get the skip she was looking for though and that was actually a really nice shot yeah she's a little bit in the rough but she has a wide open look for uh for birdie yeah Paige with some branches to contend with and finds two of them she's gonna be well short of the basket she was like please don't get stuck in that bush or hate thought through though Paige just laying up this is Liz she looks like she didn't quite have a window he'll run the putt but she'll be making par here and another DEATH death plot Vanessa's facing right here yeah and hopefully that didn't catch edge and keep rolling cuz it drops off behind there she's about yeah 25 to 30 left but she can't what a save that was fantastic save from Vanessa that is like the that is what she needed right there to get her confidence back yeah oh yeah this is gonna be Sarah saving power here to keep herself to under par yeah I don't know about you but there's no such thing as a drop-in for these elevated baskets no there's there's no safe happens yeah this is Liz for par as well she will stay it even and this is Paige for par as well Oh five this is a par three it is 300 feet this is really just a turnover shot or forehand for Sarah homie huh there is a lot of trees in the way though so you really just I mean after after your disc turns right you're kind of just praying it gets through all the trees because just penetrate that gap and just cross your fingers to see how far to get up there and yeah if you don't like Sarah just hit that tree right there you just got to try to salvage the power yeah it does a turn pretty right really fast so it's definitely a tighter hyzer line so there's something nice and under stable a little bit much there and getting an unfortunate roll down there I was not expecting the roll after the tree hit there that looks like a great line barely catches the tree but she's gonna have a long look for her too yeah I feel like four hands really the long way to get all the way up there right I like the term burden throw turnover it's be so sharp though yeah yeah it's it's super tight page with a four wow what a shot perfect right there about ten feet yes sir looks like she's given us a little bit of a getting greedy like here she'll be tap in for par though hey when the cameras are on you get greedy and you tried to cool stuff yeah it is Vanessa she's just a little bit too low that was a really nice run a really nice par saved from page she was definitely out of position after her first shot and I'm sure just executed perfectly on that second shot I'd I figured that that bag noise is gonna interrupt her a little bit I was tipped right over Knox in the par though and the worries there Sarah will stay under par and unfortunate bogey from Liz and we're on to hole six this is a par four this is a very tricky shot depending on what you want your second shot angle to be you really want to be on the either the left side or the right side to leave yourself with that angle that you're comfortable with there is also a mando on the left side as well so you kind of have to hit this tunnel on the right side and just leave yourself with as open of the up shot as you can and Sarah looks like she hit that mando tree yeah technically she made it yeah she's just to kind of work around a little bit yep page turned this one over a little bit too much I believe favorable kick though yeah ends up on that right side this is looking like a nice shot from Vanessa okay oh and she it's the cheese well still fortunate though yeah yeah that window into the green is super tight yo and the green zone like I'm I mean it's like a mound - so you got some drop-offs all around the basket as well yeah that's gonna be in a decent spot I don't think she is too far into that rough fair she's actually not in the rough at all this is looking like a really nice second shot she's gonna be just down the hill maybe just at the edge of circle - really nice flex shot there by Sarah hokum yeah yeah she's so good at like getting that wrist involved - mm-hmm there's super touchy shots yeah you really don't need a whole lot of arm motion with those four - just help and how much spin he can put on it yep Paige had a perfect window into the green yeah I didn't quite get the turn on that on that putter shot up approach but should be on the left side yep and Vanessa pitches up she'll be able to take par from there this is Sarah for the birdie oh she's feeling it though yeah overs he's gonna be tapping in a car so he got Paige lining this one up see if she can knock this one in oh I thought that was bouncing off the cage into the baske hit my head it was just just am side yeah I love how like unique that little like run up putters yeah you don't see that very often mm-hmm Vanessa hitting that am side but she stays in there both pages yeah they both do that don't they oh yeah well I'm sure they play tons of rounds together here so they learn a thing or two from each other feed off each other yeah sure this is Liz it makes good for the parsh you'll stay at plus one page steps in the par as well you know it's playing par golf yeah I think we got a star part actually and go wheeze or down so far there's seven out with the leaderboard check-in hole seven this is a par three three hundred eighty five feet definitely plays a lot longer than that these ladies are really just trying to get around this tree on the right side to give himself an open look for their upshot it's really difficult to get all the way up to the green because like I said it's super uphill and you really just want to have an open look for your second shot and that's that's really the only tree got a void and unfortunately Sarah threw that trace right in the middle of it hopefully she'll have a sum of a good line through there and Paige hitting almost the exact same manner I mean it is like right in the middle of fairway it is oh yeah these ladies are you know conditioned to throw it in the middle of fairway so yeah and that's gonna be out of bounds and yeah or certainly and that's so easy to do on this hole to just get a little bit too much fade and dobey's is right there mm-hmm she'll be shooting for three from that left side he was an ESP crank from Liz yeah this is looking a little too turned over and yes she's gonna be in the rough on that right side she'll most likely just be pitching out from there yeah Paige going with the patent-pending shot and try and turn one over up there I love watching these shots for some reason there's like kind of unique you know you don't pull not very often mm-hmm but they are difficult as you can see yep and she just hugged that one too tight and caught that branch oh my god full send from Sarah oh yeah she's in position to save far there this is Liz from the looks like she might have a window oh yeah Oh good-looking forehand yeah great-looking forehand just barely caught the lamb so here's Vanessa for three and I think that popped out a little bit so I think she'll have a pretty open look for her bogey save great upshot from Liz she'll be tapping in for the bogey oh yeah Sara is putting solid so far oh absolutely she stays at 2 under par holding that strong and unfortunate bogey from Paige yeah I couldn't imagine playing this course twice in one day luckily they don't have to yeah like just like a casual golfer out here I mean yeah your your calves are on fire you're climbing like a thousand times in elevation yeah or more than that honestly you probably hole 8 this is a par 3 it is 462 feet this is pretty much just a hyzer that you want to get the right height on the basket is tucked kind of uphill into these trees to the left here so these ladies are really just gonna be trying to land at the bottom of this hill to give themselves a circles edge putt is there an over-the-top lawn do you think but there's a ton of power man yeah yeah yeah this holes pretty tricky as you can see there's just a lot of shrubbery to contend with right out of tea and this was looking a little too high from Paige she's gonna be on that left side looks like Paige my Nick that and like that very first branch to and slowed her dis way down and pleasure to go way left I believe this is a nuke from Liz she's gonna be over there with Paige yep Vanessa thrown a nuke as well actually a comment or a comment yeah okay when she ended up in that grass on the right side man yeah that's a tricky spot she's way out of position over there sneaky man she just can't get her breaker on this hole yeah she's gonna be outside the circle on that left side she might have some trees to contend with on her putt Sarah just finessing that disc through those trees how parking it she will be tapping in for par aim was that Blizzard page that was pay okay yeah I really don't know I couldn't Oh great upshot from page in Vanessa I mean she's just like having to do all kinds of things you're looking at cutting through two trees Wow what a putt grape Hut from Vanessa yeah unfortunately this for double but still like one of those confidence things I don't know yeah oh yeah I'm still making like going like really like look at the score you know those ago that was a great putt yeah we got Liz she saves the bogey from that rough spot and I believe this is Paige to say bogey as well yeah yep that'll move her to to over par and Sarah just finessing through the trees and make it look easy oh yeah this era taking the loan par their whole nine this is a part 3 it is 425 feet very uphill these ladies are really just trying to get up close to this first tree here on the left and give themselves a look for their up shot for the second shot because this this hole really plays like for 50-plus yeah yeah you can choose on that like that left side of that tree in the middle or the right side I didn't the way Sarah's going here is probably the way to go slow more open on that left side yeah it just takes so much power to get up to the crest of that Hill and she does so that should be a decent spot for her second shot and Paige is gonna be right there next to that tree on the right Liz as well yeah she got great flex out of that oh yeah out of that crank you got banessa with that comment again and she's just playing some position golf here yeah low ceiling up shot look though staying in the fairway yeah this is definitely not ideal but this is looking like a really nice up shot oh yeah she's on that right side she might have some branches to contend with on her stroke for her putt but not a bad spot and Sarah her up shot game is absolutely on point right now oh yeah she's putting everything in the circle this puts it up there as well oh I mean that's just nasty yeah that's that's just not fun - well yeah I mean you hate to see stuff like that just spit straight through she'll be tapped in for bogey unfortunately but there's a Sarah for the par finishing the front nine at 2-under par that's so good it's so impressive yeah and Paige makes par as well she is finishing this front nine at 2-over par yeah really just that one hole that got her that that double bogey mm-hmm well then that shouldn't play in pretty clean golf yeah Liz makes good for par Vanessa unfortunately it's happened in the bogey finishing her at eight over par for the front nine yeah she got stuck behind some awkward spots here and there and just had a hard time getting up to the basket yep well that's gonna conclude the front nine coverage of the round one feature card so far Sarah hokum leading the pack at 2-under par playing really solid golf just executing the shots perfectly and not making mistakes where she can't afford to make mistakes so really nice to
