Hello and welcome to round one back nine coverage of our MO feature card here in Jonesboro, Arkansas for the 2026 played Against Sports Jonesboro Open. Big Barry commentary bringing you all the action from a windy and beautiful disc side of heaven disc golf course. >> Yeah, great front nine. Guys need to go check that out if you're chilling with us right now and you didn't because we had a lot of great shots. If you look down at our leaderboard right here, we got Calvin at minus 5 under which is tied for first well in second place for the tournament through nine holes. And then you know some solid golf down the way. Benjamin knocking off the rust. Uh, you can expect him to bring it back on this back nine. I at least I am. >> So, yeah. >> Yeah. You know, I was happy that we had AB on that big power uh what was it? Hole seven. I'm super happy we got Calvin for hole 10. This is the Calvin hole. This is the hole where he just rips and it goes farther than any drive you've ever seen. I'm I'm looking forward to him doing it again. 818 ft. This is just an absolute monster of a par4. >> Put some pressure on the guy. Jeez. I mean, I I did that for years. I didn't want to say anything about it, and he'd always exceed my expectations. High hopes right now. >> Oh, that's about as good of a kick as you're going to get early left release. Just no one does this hole better. He kind of got screwed. That was a bad skip. >> I don't think there's anything wrong with what he just did there. That was awesome. Yeah, he's he's in a good spot. >> It just didn't get the skip I was expecting. He just hits this line. >> Yes. Get through the branches. Get down. >> Yep. >> Okay. And what it tells me is that nobody feels more comfortable hitting a line with speed than Calvin. >> No, there might be a a couple as comfortable, but nobody more comfortable. >> More comfortable. >> This needs to get to the earth cuz there is out of bounds on the left if you get a skip. >> And >> that's as good as they make them for Ben. That is so good. Good angle to the pin from there. Maybe he's just trying to scoot this underneath the branches and get some kind of look for an approach. That might be kind of tough actually. I >> think it is going to be going to be behind all the little dinker trees. >> Yeah, I was in a similar spot and it is not pretty. >> I like this little layup play from Maddie. >> Yeah, once you get on the other side of those trees and two, you're looking good for the par, which is a very common score in this hole. Does it have the height to go? >> He'll have a look from C2. >> Yeah, that's that's pretty good from there. >> Yeah, C1's actually. Yeah, >> this is >> top class drive. Just a wide open hiser to the pin. >> He's going to find himself back at even par most likely. Wow, this is tight. I'm telling you, it's it's really bad over here. Good angle for AB to find that hiser. >> Yep. Paul, do it. He's been getting some massive rollways lately. It's kind of insane. Benny slightly obstructed. Bit awkward now. AB for par. Uhoh. No way. No way, man. That happened quick. Bubbly. Oh, what a double bogey p. >> Honestly, at that point, incredible. Wow. Anthony Brea's four the last five. Gets to this one. Putt rolls. OB takes a double. My goodness, that happened so quick. >> There's a good putt there from Matt Orum down the hill. Look at those branches. Hey, AB's approach was parked. I mean, he had that thing secured in the bag for the par. Stands up, rolls away. Putt doesn't look that great. Doesn't need a roll. OB back to back. Brutal. Meanwhile, great birdie for Ben. This is the one I used to Maple Hill with right there in the picture. What up everyone? Mattio here. I want y'all to check out something with me real quick. Something uh I don't think has gotten enough attention. The widest selection in Westside history is available now. Westside.com. Get them while they're hot. Let's go, baby. >> Is there? Yeah. >> Yeah. This one plays plays tough today. >> Well, well, like I said, I was just a couple of cards in front of these guys, so the win was just straight headwind. I'll be surprised if it changed in that short amount of time. If there's a card of anyone that can get to this hole, it's going to be Ben, Calvin, AB, and Mattio's got great distance, but he requires a little bit more of like the finesse in the wind. He might not have the power to get there, but this is a brutally tough hole to get. And look at that drive just turned straight over for Ben. Calvin's got it moving right. Skip. Oh my gosh. Oh, he's past the basket. He He loves both of these last tools. >> Oh boy. Oh boy. Diamond it up. Jeez. >> I like this. If he misses the branches. >> Got to use the height to get to. >> Dang it. That was That was going to be nice. >> I still think it's coming up short with that much height. >> Yeah, but it's a headwind. Yeah, he he's got to look if that gets through. You're right. Oh man. >> Oh, bad drop. >> Terrible drop. That was looking really great. Who could forget the $10,000 ace at for the OTB skins when AB chained out on this hole >> stone dead right there >> or the playoff when this was used to be hole one with Calvin and McBth and Calvin hits the koozie. This would just be my my worst nightmare playoff hole. >> Is the bet still on? >> Don't Don't we don't talk about it. Yes. Yes, it is. >> Okay, good. that I mean I don't know who I don't know how uh there were 16 birdies on this hole >> people rip 16 birdies on I I mean obviously it was the kind of day where the wind was swirling but if everyone was dealing with the same wind that some of these later cards were coming through I don't think you're seeing 16 birdies on and it was a straight massive headwind but either way shout out to those 16 birdies cuz that's that's cool well done >> not going to see a ton more on this one. H probably 24 birdies or something on this 820 straight headwind again. A little left to right cross off the tee and then right to left cross going up on your second shot. This one just it plays really tough. It's essential to get left and far. If you can do that, the upshot's not as bad, but it takes a very overstable disc and a lot of power. And that that guy right there, >> he's got both those things. does those things. Get >> Yeah, that's what they call position numero uno. >> You want to be left even left of that, I think. Really? >> Yes. Huh. That's getting away with a little bit of a pull. Better. The result is very good. You kind of want to be in that little ditchy area where the grass is like any anything right there or left. >> He might have a hiser, a wide hiser. Otherwise, he ain't got nothing from there. Unless you over the most overstable disc. Oh, >> AB going through the skinny high gap. Goes high, rips, >> hues. There's that ditch. >> Mhm. >> You see this is a really tough turnover, >> but he landed in the circle. >> Yeah, little circle thing there. That was so good from there. I mean, if you're inside C2 even, I think for birdie on this hole, you're feeling pretty good about Maybe Calvin's not feeling good, but most people are. >> Oh, he's feeling good from there. He He hit a tiny tiny gap. >> There's not a lot of great opportunity trying to go out and around what >> Mattio is trying to do. But from that far right of a landing zone off the tea, you don't really have many other options. >> You see how skinny this is from here? and put some Annheiser on it. >> Keep it low. >> This could be gone left. >> There's OB over there. >> Yeah, just like that. >> It from really the best spot you can be off the tea. >> Oh, and get some love off of the tree limbs, but going to have to earn it. >> Yeah, he's got to start picking it up. I mean, one under. He's falling behind the pace. Fortunately for him, he gets to see what that pace is with Calvin. You know, he loves it when he starts doing the hand motions. Ricked it. AB in for Birdie. taking advantage of that stellar drive and just I mean honestly stellar putting. He's been putting so well. Obviously the hiccup on hole 10 ended up costing him but I mean like you said it was a great double bogey putt. It's a good putt there from Ben from the out of bounds. >> Yep. Saves par stays it even. 17 birdies on the 12th. >> Gonna be a little probably a little bit more on this hole. >> Probably. Yeah. Nothing in the way. 435. Uh a little bit of a headwind coming through the hill in the valley, but they have the tea cleared out a little bit. There's like some branches that used to keep the keep your drive a little bit more on the low side, and now players are given a little bit more room to work the hiser. The only thing that's really different about this one is those limbs and the basket is now elevated. He's leaning for good reason. This is going to be really good at pin high. All right, that'll get him to three under if he can make that. That's just fine. Calvin wide. Just don't hit the base. I guess nearly does. Yeah, some shots you just know right out of the hand. There's just no way it's not perfect. You want to see smoothie butterc biscuit gravy on top? Watch this. I didn't see any of that. I just saw a guy throwing a disc that looked really well thrown. Does come up a bit short though. Yeah, he showed the Annie to the to the win. And that's never good. Like this one. Not good. >> Skip. >> You're just not going to get the lift. >> Yeah. Right. Mattio from range. He's kept it pretty clean today. He'll make this. >> Yeah. Playing well. Really tough start to the season for Maddie. Oh, Ben still hasn't quite got things going yet. Yeah, we're not used to seeing Matt Orum at the bottom of leaderboards and >> first few tournaments. That's where he's been living. >> Put them on a featured card. I say this about all the best players that we have, >> they can be playing as bad as possible. you put them on a featured card, they're most likely going to find something. >> It's just >> it's just the pressure that gets put on there. They get put into the zone finally. So, this is it's nice to see him up here for us to watch and see him hopefully pop out of the little slump that he has. Do you know what over a million dollars in discs look like? Well, MVP wants to give them away to schools. That's right. MVP is looking to give away 100,000 recycled neutron glitches to 4,000 schools. That's crazy. But we need your help to get the word out. Help MVP grow the sport. Talk to your local schools and go to MVP's website for more information. I want to I want to break this one down because >> Oh, >> it's just one of my favorite holes. >> 855 ft par five. Get past this tree anyway. You possibly can. Here's the drop zone. Second shots if you get into trouble. Laid up to there. And then they built up all this beautiful stuff right here. Like the little embankment, the rocks on the right, and they made a a route for everybody to go straight. A lot of people are going to go over the top of these little pines that are guarding the basket, but I mean this this hole is just a great par five. >> Okay. And Burr, he's at six under. Look at the height on this shot off the tea. >> I I think unfortunately this hole is going to become a par4 in the next couple years. >> Don't >> it will let Why not have the eagleable par? >> Oh, I like it. Yeah. No, I don't want him to. But >> yeah. So Ganon with a bad position. Good distance. just didn't have a look. Has to lay up. >> That's pretty dialed in with that shot. My goodness. And he'll be seven under through 14. >> The goose man. >> That port just gets hurt every time he goes >> that rim. I mean that is going through some punishment. That's way left and opens up some hiser opportunities or forehand anheiser. I like it. >> Beats the branches. Love that. >> The creativity there. Well done. >> They'll have that putt for eagle. Well done. >> I haven't seen too many players go for that forehand Anheiser approach around the backside. >> Yeah, it looked like he didn't have anything except for that. All right, Anthony needs to take a little off. See, this is >> Yeah, a little inside. >> Oh, really inside. That's going to be a tough layup, germ, from there. H >> or do you think he still goes? >> No, he's not going. No, >> why not? >> No, >> I don't want him to. >> Yeah, of course. We always want him to, but he ain't going to do it. >> Lifting. Lifting. Jeez. How do they get that much height and that much distance? I want to know. I'm getting angry. >> They're like 65. >> Oh, thank you. I'm fine now. That makes sense. What about this guy? He lifts stuff all day. >> It's not about the height. It's about heart. I don't know. I can't anything about Ben. He's just raw power and form and he's a musly guy. >> Yeah, that's what I was saying. He picks stuff up and moves it over into spots that if I were to pick it up, I wouldn't be able to. >> He just strikes me as a guy who has like a stonemoving hobby, just picking up large boulders and placing them in different spots. Maddie, can he get through? Ah, there's there's not much in there. >> No, he's he's going to putt down to the bottom and go from there. >> Tricky little approach here for Anthony. He's going to have to take it wide. He's done that. Now he just has to get the distance right and not go. Yeah, that's Oh, prime time. >> Yeah, well done. Laying up on this down slope is is relatively tricky. You can find yourself going OB long. I've I don't think I've ever not gone OB long >> when laying up. >> Yeah, just always >> what you do. >> Yeah, it's like you just go to the drop zone. >> Ask your card. Can I just go straight to the drop zone? >> I'm done. I'll just go there from the tea. This is dropping on the right. He's going to have to get through the trees. >> I think that's smoke >> by the bucket. Okay. >> Means this disc is close. >> Why did that look like it was dropping from the from our camera angle right there? It was like dropping onto the bucket. >> I don't Yeah, I guess it was just perfectly thrown. And Mattio does have to putt layup and he should have a good chance for birdie still. Be the right height. Yeah, nice shot, Ben. Messes up the layup. Makes up for it with a great approach. I couldn't imagine Mattio messing this upshot up. >> Well, you don't have to. >> I mean, if you've ever been to Mobile, Alabama, there's a lot of holes like that. >> Yeah, he's one of the premier gap hitters of all time. Maybe a little early just playing the ricochet. Smart. I even thought of that. >> Mattio lead card worlds 2005. >> Sure. What about it? >> Put that into perspective. That's how long he's been this good. >> Oh yeah. Derek Jeter jersey, man. >> Classic >> A-Rod jersey. >> A-Rod jersey. >> Yeah, >> A-Rod jersey still is classic. >> I mean, that's a triple X size baseball jersey. He's the last guy from that generation. >> Uh-huh. >> Well, that not that generation from that time period who's still this good. He's the last one. >> We got a >> That's crazy. >> Hole 15. It's been brought back 50 ft. And like Paul alluded to in the last hole, Brad and his crew has collected hundreds of railroad ties and just had a beautiful circumference around this pond or the perimeter I should say, not the circumference, the perimeter of the pond. It's one of those math terms. >> Ganon smartly slips and throws a high spike perfectly. Give us the cannons. Come on. >> Give us the cans. Can >> do a little flex on him, didn't he? >> Yeah. >> Watch out. >> Stretching it out. Making sure he's not hurt. >> Birdie. >> Birdie will >> eight under. >> Help. >> Man, is he is he good or is he good? I think he's both of those things. >> Both of them. At his best, he's good. And at his worst, he's good. This is looking What happened? >> Oh my. >> What? Who pulled a string? >> That's the worst break I've ever seen in my life. >> Oh goodness. It's I mean, and >> it's not even close. >> It's It's on the first half of the pond. >> It's not even close. But that was going to be perfect. >> Yes. >> Oh, that's so brutal. >> AB, >> hard act to follow after that. >> Dropping. Oh my goodness. >> Barely getting over. And AB has a shot now to get to 500. He's definitely settled into the round now. >> He was playing with some danger right there. Mattio, does he get Yeah. Yep. Just don't skip over the wall. Nice. >> The only thing with the backhand here, I think it's the correct play. >> Overstable turned over, but when it comes back, it it can skip over that wall. And that is such a bummer. Like like this needs to not skip over the wall. Deal. >> Figured out how to push a hiser in there. I like that. Now he gets the super lift. >> No. Calvin with a twoshot lead going into the hole is about to take a double bogey at best. AB missing a putt in the green, but not Ben. That's such a bad break, man. >> Yeah, that a huge right to left crosswind going into that hole that he probably was aware of as he is walking across the the bridge the first time to go play out 14, but it's you still don't know what it's going to do when the disc gets exposed around the corner and it just took it completely out. So, just scan the QR code to donate and join the conversation. Oh man, it happened quick. And right there, Calvin gets super punished. Couple of bad wind breaks and now we've got a tie at the top. Actually, no, cuz Gan is now eight under. So, he'll be trailing now um through 15 holes. Onto the 16th. 675 uphill par4. There's that OB that you see in the left side of your screen. >> This is probably playing as one of the easier ones, right? I mean I mean 17's going to >> I'm guessing going to take the cake as a top three guy, but >> yeah, it's the third easiest actually. 17 is not as easy as this one. >> Oh, three was the easiest, then 14, and then this one. We had Ganon throwing his approach here. That's Oh my gosh. just almost dunks it in. I assure you it is not as easy as he made it look right there. Power on this course just really helps. Accuracy along with the power also helps. And then when you can putt spinny like he does, that's nice. >> Yeah, all those things. Being the best player in the world helps. >> Don't know. I can't confirm that. Never was that. >> What's your highest ranking >> or lowest? >> Third. I know what it's like to be third doesn't help you beat the number one guy. I know that. Uh, that's Can Can you go too far and have a bad approach to the green? >> I think he did. I think he just did that. >> It might be hard to throw. I don't know. >> Maybe it shouldn't It shouldn't be that hard. >> Uh, it's tricky. Trickier than being farther back. Like Ganon was a little bit farther back and maybe on the left he was able to throw the skip around. >> I think the skip's kind of >> it. Calvin boosts him. Ben boosts them. AB turn the camera guy. >> Yeah, it's his favorite thing to do. >> It's It has to be. He's so good at it. >> Fence. >> Do you like that fence there? Yeah, >> I kind of like it. >> I do. >> It forces you to throw the low skip forehand. I do like that there there's an opening of the fence >> as well so you can actually hit the gap. >> And Ben is going for it. And he gets by. >> Okay. Ben Ben on a little streak here. >> Opportunity to get to 300 now. >> Anything I think five or better is is good today. >> Mhm. Vinnie going with the low forehand. Gets past it. Straight skip to circle's edge. >> Not his best approach from there. Yeah, that's >> Yeah, see he doesn't even have the sidearm. So, we're going to try to pure it through that gap over there on the right. >> Bummer. >> Hold it. Careful. >> Yeah. Today's not the day to be messing around with 20 foot comebackers >> when his butt looks like that. >> Yeah, it's when he wins tournaments like the Croco Open. >> God, was that fun to watch just sitting there watching them go back and forth and 45. >> It was so cool. That was fun. That's a memory I'll have for a very, very long time. Oh, >> a friend just winning their first one, the first big one, you know. >> Yeah. I wish he would have got it done a little quicker, but >> yeah, >> it was still cool. >> Okay, Matt, >> well done. And he's had some great chances to win out here. He's had the lead going down the stretch with a few holes left and it's just Well, I believe he won this last year. >> Yeah, he's the defending champion. Yeah, of course. But getting two monkeys off the back in the in one season, it's awesome. >> Yep. on to the 17th. Low ceiling T-OT here. Want to land somewhere from here down to that red stake. And if you get past that, congratulations. You made the hole a lot easier than most. Got the tight OB in the left side of the green here to an elevated basket. The OB does wrap around the green, but I love what they've done with this hole over the last couple years. Bringing the teapad back into the right, making OB on that right side, so the players have to access this low ceiling tunnel as opposed to the big high anheiser shot that we've seen in the past. >> And that's just fine. Oh, it's Yeah, maybe even better than five. The the action on the ground was perfect. >> I don't mind playing the hiser here. Just skipping left. >> You get cute like this and you can take out on those branches. Who gets lucky, gets through them. >> Yeah, if you hit those branches and you drop straight down, you probably have a bit over 400 left. >> Yeah, >> it's not what you want going into that small green. And a skipping hiser past this one on the right. It leaves you about 300 feet. Like that's 340 in. >> I think up. You don't think more than that? >> Well, I was left of that and I had like >> 320. >> Okay. Okay. >> Yeah. So, it's not that far honestly. >> But by that uh Yeah. By that little thing over there short of that, it's like 320. Oh, I don't know how close Calvin is. He might have a weird runup. The AB is definitely It looks like he's at least 330. >> Yeah, he's going mid-range. So, overstable mid-range and he's kind of dimed it. >> Yeah, just parked it. >> That's why I'm saying low hiser there. I think people kind of overthink it. Yeah, Calvin does have a step, but it's not not his normal runup, of course, but does well with it. >> Does he? >> Oh, actually, no. I was I was deceived. I thought those were the bullseye. >> That's like where your shots come end up and you're like, "Ah, so close, but I'm okay with it kind of." But then you get up there and it's super windy and there's that OB back there. We've seen a lot of people >> accidentally run this putt. A little rimmed off out of bounds, man. >> You're like, "Dang, this hole's so easy. How did it bite me with a double?" >> Right. >> This is a perfect again. Ben's looking great right now, man. This going to be for four in a row. >> There he is. Okay, >> we lost Vinnie a little bit. He started the round off with a great hot putter and then he's just missed some some putts that we hoped that he'd make in the mid to late section of the the course. >> Oh, hold on. Nice putt there. Good grab. Yeah, Ben four under respectable. >> Absolutely. And I mean, you said five under is a good mark and >> he has a chance. >> A birdie on 18 would get him to that mark. It's a crazy riskreward hole. Lot of wind and we got ourselves a starframe. And here is 18 at 495 down the tunnel. Option to lay up is there, but we got a tailwind today. So I think players are going to be sending. >> Yeah, a lot of people are just going. >> The new thing is there's a drop zone that you can see up there on the mound. It's about a 70ft putt downhill and that water behind the basket is very much in play. from the drop zone. >> And on that fly over, you can see the work they've done here with those road road ties. It looks unbelievable. >> It's really, really good stuff. >> Canon sitting at 10 under >> opportunity to make it to 11. He's saying go in. >> How did that spike? >> Really good. That's somehow squeezed in for the 11 under. Ben Kane is just going to hold the fist pump. Gan's feeling pressure. That's brutal. That's fun. Aaron Gos whap 500 in the last four with a late charge. That'll do. Oh, gone back edge of C1. >> Goose has been putting great today. Can he keep it up here? >> That's a good stroke. That was pretty. I haven't seen Goose in the mix really this year. Solid solid performances at every event. Just >> he hasn't been on lead card. >> Yep. >> He has not been on lead card yet. >> Only a matter of time for a guy like him. >> Oh, huge drop. >> That's a That's fine. Go in. Oh, >> he almost did. He almost dunked it. Oh, I felt terrible for him. I thought he was going to drop OB and then it kind of like double lifted. Oh my, what a dream ace hole 18. What a finish from him. Five under. Got there. >> Awesome. Don't like where this is going for Mio. Ah, yeah. That's a bummer. Just didn't get turned over. Moonshot coming for Anthony Bella. What? Oh, well that's a nice tool to have just to go. Spikeiser 500 was one of the most over probably the most overstable disc in his bag. >> Calvin's just getting beat down by these stupid wind gusts, man. I mean, so is nearly everyone else in the field, but that's just a good illustration of how >> I think he missed his height there. You got to get that high when you got that type of power. >> Good height. Gave it a shot. >> Good touch. Or solid round. He's going to shoot six under today. >> Really good. >> Calvin's not going to be happy with the seven under when he was nine under just a few holes ago. You're seeing players finish with all these birdies and eagles coming in and Calvin went the opposite direction. But something tells me we have not heard the last of Calvin Heinberg this week at the Jonesboro Open. >> Fun featured card. Everybody played solid. >> Totally. Yeah, it took it took a few players a while to get into it, but you know, AB was was even or one under for a long time. Obviously, Ben was even par until the last five gets the last five to shoot a solid round. Top 20. Yeah. Gan leading the way. Yakob Simarrod. Awesome. Great 10 under par. He was in early, too. Held the lead for almost the whole day until Ganon came in. And Goose, great finish. Adam Hamus. He's just been a lead card maniac this year in a top 10 killer. >> Been playing some great disc golf. Um, some new names I haven't seen on the leaderboard. The Sheffers guy, I've never heard of him. Uh, Elijah Bickl, obviously I've heard of Elijah before. He's doing great. He's in the top 10. >> Joey Tamalei, little five under. Nice shooting. >> Totally. So, a lot of good stuff happening here on our leaderboard, but it's going to be Goose's first lead card of the season in the Elite Series tomorrow. So, he's going to be super super pumped about that. Jakob Seamarrod, always fun to watch. Yep. >> The young check. And uh Gamber, he's off to the races once again. >> Yep. Tomorrow's going to be a fun day. >> Could be some storms coming in. We're not quite sure what it's going to be like. It's going to be a little different than round one, but I think that some of us are expecting the wind to still be a bit of an issue. I think so. Yeah. So, well, that's it for round one. Thanks for watching and we will see you guys tomorrow. I want
