Hello and welcome to Jonesboro for round one front nine coverage of the MO feature card at the 2026 played again sports Jonesboro Open. Happy to be back here. It's been 2 years. Big Berry commentary. Jeremy Paul, what's up, dude? >> Hey, man. I'm relaxing with you, man. Going to going to watch some good disc golf. We got a sweet card here for you guys. Uh quick little turnaround from the major last week. We'll see where everybody's at. I'm excited to see what is going down here. >> Yeah. Well, definitely there's going to be a lot going down in terms of ups and downs with the wind cuz we have got a very windy day here. And hole one is not a good hole to play when it's very windy. It's a beautiful hole otherwise. 520 ft downhill. Tough lane to access the backhand. A lot of people are going to have to throw either a turnover or go over the top or play forehand safe. >> They pushed the teapad back a little bit as well. >> Is that what they did? >> Yeah. >> Brad and the team have been working tirelessly to make this place better and this course has never looked better. few changes and they're awesome changes. >> I agree. >> Um, this needs to go and it's not gonna that's out of bounds to start off our featured card. Perfect illustration of how difficult the backhand is. We have a right to left crosswind and it's going to push down anything with Annheiser angle and Calvin. You can see that's getting just pulled into the wind. And that is also OB. We got Ben Callaway. Not playing too many events on tour this year, but obviously had tremendous success here on our feature card today. Happy to have him. >> Goes with an overstable driver. I think that's smart play. >> Not an easy up and down that far, but he's safe and he has a chance to get the par. Yeah, easier than uh where those other fellas went, that's for sure. This is looking nice if the wind can just pull it. And it is. Does it get in there? >> Wow. >> Yeah, he does. Nice throw. >> Got himself a look. Yeah, this is a great hole for Maddie because he throws that nose up and so that nose doesn't get down and get pulled to the right, you know? >> Right. Not an easy up and down for Calvin holding the angle and he's got to look at it. >> Going to have to earn it from there, man. That's going to be tough. >> Might be a break from the wind in that dense cluster of trees. Maybe does well to drive that into the hillside. Good look here. What happens when you're pin high? You got to go through the woods. Gets a little window. Well done. to avoid the double. >> All done. Yep. Tough starting hole here. >> Not for Maddie. >> Wow. What a start. >> 11 11 birdies in a day. Yeah, I was going to say there can't be a ton of them. >> Nope. I'm surprised there weren't more bogeies to be honest. 26% of the field with the bogey, 7% double or worse. But 57 for par is pretty decent on this hole. So much wind, so much distance you have to carry. Hey everyone, I want to let you know that today's video is brought to you by Displate. Par three. Hole two up the hill. Going to be a pretty pretty crazy wind on this one. It's going to play a little bit farther. Kind of heady. Left to right cross. >> Right to left. Right to left cross. That's what I meant. >> Yeah. Let's set the stage properly. It actually sets up really well for the forehand if you got it. If you don't have it, it's kind of a tricky one to swing out because you have these early trees left. >> Not a lot of people have that. >> Yeah, >> that's far. >> It is far. I I mean I I play with Albert Tom who put it about 20 deep. Blew my mind. >> That's not a real >> He's not a real person. I knowation of what a sidearm can do. >> Ben Callaway. This is I like the play of playing it into that tree and having it just kind of like >> get through it, but when you short of it, you often end up outside C1 left. >> Hard to go that far. >> Now I'm surprised that AB is not going forehand. >> This is going to end up in the in the crud. Yeah, >> Calvin never missed this hole in his life. Baby hiser out the hand and watch it bride. Oh, >> that cross one's getting it. >> Yeah, over there by Benjamin. >> If this course wants to avoid being attacked to the tune of the big numbers that we've seen in the past, then this wind is crucial. Yeah, >> because even though this is not a course that is uh easy, if you come out here, you'll see that it's not an easy course to score low on, but for the field, this feels like the wide open, like a play place compared to New London, Hornets Nest, New Orleans, the tournaments that came before >> that this can actually fly this week. See if Ben can find something. >> Wow, >> that was such a good effort. >> Held straight for so long, even on a little bit of a hiser release. Good effort. Pretty common score on two. 70% of the field with the par just out of reach for most people in the crazy wind. >> Yeah, it's really tough to get that. You got to have that perfect disc really is what it comes down to. That's going to hold on Annheiser and then fight out right at the end. >> Three is a par three that you've seen this hole before if you've watched anything here in Jones Maro. Uh I someone said the basket might be a little bit more right, but I don't think so. I think it's in the same place it's always been. That right side, you feel like you don't want to really test it too close to the edge cuz the disc will just kind of get pulled in by the outer branches and you don't really have a putt if you get trapped early right. So, it's kind, you know, you just got to play the wind and throw a forehand into the green. Today, going wide will be tough. This looks really good to me. Got caught up. I was two groups ahead of these guys and there was a right to left crosswind. It looks like it might be just a little bit of a left to right tail right now. It was kind of swirling all day. >> Yeah, I'm a little confused because Mattiey's shot looked really nice to me. Yeah. >> And this is what I I feel like happens if you get it too wide. >> Ben Callaway off the mark. He's deep in circle two. And that's wide, but actually swinging >> pretty good. Yeah, it's hard to get it close. It's just hard to get it close. >> And that's that's a really hard putt from there coming through those bushes on the right there. It's going to be swirling and seen a lot of people make big mistakes on the screen. >> Yeah, that's same spot. >> That's well done for Calvin. But yeah, those are no gimmies on the screen. I think ma Matty got a really bad reaction. Typically they get in a little bit farther than that with his line that he had there. >> He got the minimum out of that drive. >> Maybe >> it's a good putt. >> Putt was dialed last week in Lynchber. Nearly took down the major Calvin. A couple good putts to start the round. Both elevated from his position. There were four players who were already the first two holes. Let's see if there's any of those four players remaining after three holes. You mean >> after? Well, after two. Corbin Milchesky, uh, James Conrad, Ezra Aderhold, I think Adam Hamus, but that was just through the first two, but now we'll see if there's any left after the first three. >> Oh, right, right, right. >> Another classic hole here at Jonesboro. Tough to birdie, tight window. Whether you want the disc moving right or left at the end is really all depending on what kind of approach you want. But that branch that you see there on the green really dictates the height of the approach. Yeah, three of them got it. Lost it. There it is. Oh my. That is way left. Huh. That is not good. I don't even know what's over there. >> Yeah. Misfire. This flips up. It's going to be good. But don't want it going too far left. That's workable. >> There's things. >> Yeah, there's hiser. We really playing with that branch heading into the green from up there. >> Used to be a real skinny route on the left. >> Yeah, it's I I looked over there. It's kind of closed up a bit right now, but there's some things if you get far enough. Mattio is going to have trouble getting to the green from back there. Probably just going to play it for par now. Might give it an effort, though. Ben hasn't lost any distance, that's for sure. >> Hard to lose distance when you got form like that. >> Yeah, >> I like this angle. >> I like this throw. >> Totally. My goodness. Smatty is going to be in putting range in circle two. Scary putt from there, but man, he got nearly all the distance he needed. >> Got a putter. >> He should have putted it. I think >> I got to give another shout out to Albert Tom >> while we're looking for AB's approach shot here. He went forehand off a te and got to the red stake. That's I've never seen anyone up on that next shelf up the hill. Did a forehand. >> Oh, that's a horrible reaction as well. You're kind of you're kind of playing Plinko from there. Is Calvin looking upward? He is with the spikeheiser. Interesting. >> Can't imagine what he's looking at. Oh well, that works really well. >> Playing Plinko through the tree. AB is looking at getting up and down for his second bogey in the first four holes. This >> has a lot of angle. Needs a chill. Great reaction. Well judged. Who invented Plinko? Solid game. >> Bob Bob Barker. That's going to be a tough par. >> Yeah, I mean, you can see it's just leads completely away from the basket and it gets downhill in a quick downhill in a hurry. Oh, wow. Good putt there from Bent. On a bit of a par streak to start off, but birdies are rare right now. You can see the wind is wreaking havoc. Very well done from Calvin. Honestly, good up and down to save the bogey for Anthony in some trouble off the tea. Just a bit of a mistake. >> We're off and running here in Jonesboro. Anthony Varela Anthony What do you think about this one here, Paul? >> I think it's a great hole. It's never not going to be hard. I know that. 360 par three, but just the shape and the of the terrain around the green slope undulation. I mean, it's just it's perfect for a disc golf hole. I think it's the only hole I've ever seen where throwing it low with a right hand backhand into the hillside where it jumps right every time is the play. You know, you don't have room to really work an annheiser with the backhand. You have to play that low driven shot. Maybe Calvin will show us how to do it right here. >> He's going to try the Annheiser. And if it gets to the earth, it's going to be money. And >> oh by >> Oh, bummer. That's not bad. >> Not bad. No, he's got that. Seen him make harder putts than that. This is looking pretty good here from Matt. >> Got to get over that log. Does >> And it slides up. That's beautiful. I don't remember who said it in our practice round. Um, >> wow. These guys are just >> Yeah, they got figured out dialing this hole up. >> But this is like one of those holes that won't when you look at good disc golf holes that will be relevant forever, >> no matter how good players get, no matter how the technology advances or whatever, this will always be a great disc golf hole to have on a course. >> Yes, couldn't agree more. >> These are just amazing backhand drives here, folks. This is absolutely how you draw it up. Calvin the only one that gets a little bit unlucky with the roll. Cleans it up on the green. >> Doesn't matter. Love Calvin Heimberg putting those putts in. And this boy here, I don't know why I said that. This guy here, uh, he loves himself some Jonesboro. I think his worst finish in the last 5 years is second place. >> Yeah, he knows how to get the job done out here. I mean, a lot of holes are like kind of like this one. Like it's just his shape. >> It's just stock. Everything stock for him, man. Matty O. Inside bullseye for the starframe. I would never have guessed. >> No. That's sick. Hole six. One of the more straightforward holes in the calm in the wind. It could be a little weird. Got to get a hiser right around here is where you're looking for to land your drive from there. It is a forehand or depending on how far your drive goes. I guess you could go back in Annheiser. The basket's been moved maybe up the hill another 15 ft. And now there is a mandatory if the drive goes too straight off the tee. That way you can't play the hiser around the backside. Alvin going with a very overstable driver. Try to get it. >> That's a perfect angle. I feel like >> looks so good. >> Oh man, >> it's a ideal drive. >> Yeah, you don't want to get it flat unless it's real overstable, but then you won't get the carry left. So, he hit that angle perfectly. See if Mattio can do the same. >> He did get it flat. Yeah, >> that's gorgeous. >> Got it flat and he is See what I mean? It pushes. >> I see. I see it. Yeah. Yeah. A little too far. The angle will be a little awkward. He might have a low skip forehand, but it could be tricky. >> That is a misfire and a half. >> And I think I saw it kick back out towards the edge. >> Kick out. >> Wow. >> Who's that guy? Get out of here. Get out of here, buddy. >> Genuinely, who was that? Whose man is this? >> I think it was a uh somebody working with DGN. I apologize. You're supposed to be there. Hand up. My bad. They're gone. And they're gone. >> No, they were there. They were there still. >> Really? >> Yeah. >> Oh, must have missed it. >> He's not. He's gone now. >> Ben, very fortunate. >> Okay. Oh, well, >> he still can get up and down from there. I think there's a flex forehand. >> Was that Sarah Hokum that was sitting >> Oh, you know what? >> I think it was now that I I guess >> she was on course. Yeah, I was just I was just calculating in my brain. I'm like and then I found it. >> Okay, there we go. Back to AB's approach. Should take care of business here. >> You just don't want to miss early here. You'd rather miss deep and have a a tricky putt. But early is bad. Early is really bad. Yeah, early you might not get up and down to save your par even. >> Yeah, you're definitely not having a putt. >> There's no putt. All right. What does Matty O elect to do? Does he still have height? >> Yeah, I think that's what you have to do and have have the wind kind of swing it. >> Well, it's kind of a bad win. It was a right to left crosswind late in the day, so these guys didn't really have room to swing the backhand andheiser in >> and even the high forehand was having difficulty getting all the way to the right. See, but he's got something. >> He's still got something because he went down that backside like you said. >> Oh, don't don't >> Paul shoot it. >> Didn't have to do that one. >> Maybe didn't Oh, get to the right spot and he will end up with a par putt. Uh Calvin Heimberg on fire now. Four in a row. Putts looking great. He's three under. Mario doesn't make it hurt. That's nice. Ben, this is a tough spot as well down the hill, but he puts it on the stripe. >> In some trouble off a te. That's what happens. Gets back to even bit of a slow start for Anthony. Also even myself a little par though. >> I'm excited to see these guys attack this hold. This is a new teapad and I think that it is the perfect place to put the tea. It gives the players who have the big distance um as a skill an opportunity to showcase that skill, which is a huge advantage on this hole. Getting across the creek safe gives you a much simpler approach. A lot of players are going to have to play the layup shot, especially in this wind. But not many times do we have a hole where I feel like the distance players have an allout rip. Like we don't get to see AB just go rip as far as he can. And this hole promotes that. Okay, it's dancing. Does it have the distance? Oh, yeah. Planning. Jeez Louise. >> Yeah, he's got the distance. >> Just don't know with those dancers. >> Mhm. It was fluctuating quite a bit. >> And this is a typical play for the field. >> Yes. >> Maybe not on this card. These guys are nice with the distance. >> Yeah, I don't think we're going to see another layup. AB gets to do AB things here. Oh goodness. Oh my goodness. Oh, >> thanks. >> Oh my goodness. >> And that didn't turn ever. You see that? It's drifting left >> as it's flying. Dude, we lost it about Ricky's drive. This is more impressive than Ricky's drive from last week by a lot. >> Just a just a kind of a bad angle to see how impressive it was. >> Oh my gosh, that was smoke. I mean, >> he's a good 100 ft. Maybe past >> Oh no. >> Oh, don't do that. Actually, >> find a way. Find a way. >> No, you're a shoot. >> Uh, past Calvin. Calvin cleared it. kind of a horrible win >> for it today to go for it. >> That is Oh, man. I'm I'm struggling. >> What are you trying to say? >> Well, this commentary in our sport requires I mean, you're saying the same thing a bunch of times. Sick. Wow. Far, crush, boom. That That's like I'm missing the right word to describe how insane that drive was. I'll just tell them tell them something like this. Let me give it a go. >> There's nobody in the field who can do that. And it's not even close. >> And Raasma Sakuri is here. >> Yeah. And nobody's getting that far. I don't care who's here. >> Yeah. It doesn't There's no one in the world who can get there. >> Yeah. That's the one guy who's going to jump putt now. >> He's jump putting his second shot, y'all. Wow. That's what I love about this hole. It It promotes a guy who has that kind of power to put it all out there. >> I agree. >> Because it's an advantage for sure. >> Every single foot gets you a better position to birdie. >> Yeah, I love it. I think he comes to an end. >> I think you're 100% right. I didn't know that uh AB was going to be on our feature group round one. I was hoping that we'd see him sometime this week on the whole just to see what he would do. And he did not disappoint. >> Imagine if it wasn't so windy. He could go deep. Yeah, I you're you perhaps. Well, the drone is flying the route that everyone used to take and some players still may take, but there's a route through the left side trees that I think you're going to see most people taking now cuz it's a more direct route and this hiser is nearly impossible with this left to right crosswind. It's like a cross headwind. It's the worst win for this hole to play the hiser. So, do not expect that drone to be any help whatsoever. And AB's lining up the hiser. >> Well, and AB's lining up the hiser. Okay, >> he skips it. Uh, yeah. Deep C2 just didn't get the height right. That's how you make it. Gosh, that's >> Oh, that was ridiculous. >> That was so ridiculous. >> Okay, >> it's a direct route, but doesn't mean you got to directly throw it to the basket. Calvin hits the freaking koozie. Unreal. is going to try his best Calvin impression. >> One of the best gap hitters in the history of the sport, showing you why the shots hard. I mean, the hard honestly the hardest part about this hole in general really isn't the angles, it's not the wind, it's none of that. It's the teapad. >> Tapad doesn't give you a good little run up to to generate any sort of power. And so I think we really Oh my goodness. We really noticed that with Ben. >> Wow. >> Like taking a a really short little run up. >> Yeah, sure. And that's just a product of the wind throwing Ben's approach calibration off. I mean, it's just even Mattio can't even get a putt straight to the basket. It's just everything is a lot of guess work. >> Whoa. >> Whoa. >> Well, they don't make them any better than this. >> There's just no question. It's It's like only barely above the band at one point maybe for a second, but it's just >> out of his hand directly on line. Yeah. >> Like that would have been good from 30 feet or 60 ft. >> Yeah. >> Ben for par. He's going to fall to plus one and we will eventually get to Calvin's drive there in the bullseye. >> Yeah, Ben needs to shake off the rust a little bit here. >> Sure. Who can blame him? It's been a long time. He's got a newborn at the house. He's a dedicated father at the house. He's got two kids now. >> Got his hands full, but disc golf is something he'll always be a part of and it's good to have him out here this week. Number nine's been brought back a little bit. Brad said that he wanted to encourage more of the backhand Annies. He said everyone was going forehand. I don't think he brought it back far enough to encourage >> the backhand and hazard. I think it's still going to be the side. You got that hazard area on the left side of the green. It's the main thing you got to worry about. >> You got to hug this right side. And he's does this. He does it well. That's going to be nice. >> Wow. >> Better than nice. If you get this turned over at all. >> Yeah. >> Or flat at all. >> You're done. >> Yep. Pass the hold. Hiser and even that shot was within a meter or two of hitting of finding that hazard at least hitting it and might have skipped out of it. But that shows you that's a perfect illustration of what you're saying, Paul. It has to hold his holdinger. I like it. >> Will it get the skip? It does. >> I don't just like it. >> Yeah, >> I like it a lot. That is very well done from Calvin. >> Yeah, this is going to be early a little bit on the right side. And >> that's just a little bit. Like I said, guys, >> am I good or am I good? >> Yeah. Emphasis on a little. >> Are these guys going? >> This is like what a grouping. >> I'll do it. Okay, >> that's a great drive from Ben. That's like >> Yeah, I'll take that. >> The best drive in the group in most groups. And he's out. Really tough putt from there. Very windy. And it gets away from him. You want to be in this comfy little zone where Calvin was at max today. Those ones are like, "Okay, yeah, we're we're good." This is one of those rounds where you go to the putting green and you practice 30footers and then you ask yourself, why am I practicing these right now? >> Yeah, it's a guess. I mean, really, you want to get a little pop and get whatever whatever you got that day. >> Where is it coming out so that I can guess? >> Of course, you're going to go to the practice. >> Of course, you're going to go practice, but it is like one of those rounds where you're like, you're >> I don't want to find myself at this range, but I'll practice it. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Well, Adam Hannah, six down through nine holes. That's really good. >> Calvin Heimberg with a bogey. He's five down and he just missed a putt in the circle two holes ago. >> Yep. >> So, he is cooking a >> lot of opportunities just that one mistake on hole one. >> But this is one of those courses where it's going to be >> a lot of >> it is. And I don't think the wind's going to go go away in the next couple days. I mean maybe on I heard on Sunday it might die down a little bit which means there is an opportunity >> for somebody to pull away from the field. There is >> okay >> you get like a great round like a 14 15 under you could pull away from the field cuz it's that windy but that that would be >> we kind of hope it doesn't happen because I feel like Jonesboro has been providing some excellent finishing stretches in this tournament. A lot of drama coming down the stretch every year. >> Yeah. >> And I expect to see the same. But like you said, who knows? We live in a day and age when disc golfers, they get on a run, they get on a run. Now, more holes in round one coming your way in a three- round event. We'll see you guys in a bit. I want you.
