Hello and welcome back to round one back n coverage of the mo feature card at the 2026 grip equipment 44th Kansas City wide open presented by Nexus Disc Golf. Jeremy Coleing, Paul Ulibberry, Big Berry commentary. Watch the cord. Watch the cord. >> Bringing you all the action here from the great place that is known as Bad Rock Disc Golf in Liberty, Missouri. >> Simon four under, Anthony fourunder, Ganon three under, Adam even. >> Couple five unders. So these guys are right there in the mix. Back nine scorable, not that windy. Let's get it. >> This is the perfect illustration of how much the course has changed from our practice round to the tournament round. This wind was almost made it very very difficult for anyone to go for in our practice. Straight headwind. This is kind of a calm right to left. It's like kind of the perfect wind to attack this. >> Yeah, just a little chip heiser today. Yeah, pretty much everybody in the field I think can get for this one. >> Yeah. >> Casey White, >> also a member of our practice crew. He didn't get there in our practice round, but he did today. >> Yeah. >> One of eight players to hit Bullseye. on the 10th. Simon high wide >> dropping. >> It's dropping. >> It's dropping fast. >> And it does get in bounds, but that is well right at the pin to the tune of 45 ft. Wondering if this guy has a slow enough disc. >> I know. I was just thinking the same thing. Like normally he just goes higher. >> This looks left. Not that far. >> Almost goes in for the ace. >> That would be cool. >> Yeah. Yes, that would be cool. >> Uh there is a time extension given to Anthony Burella. They're saying move along, folks. Swinging. Swinging backside circle. Yeah. >> All right. Now, if this wind switches Oh goodness. Gan going so high. This is so wide. And it's still going to get back into the circle. Wow. If this wind switches back to a headwind, this will not be the case moving forward in the weekend. But right now, second easiest hole in the course. >> Yeah, that makes sense. >> 21 under par. And Simon had me fooled. Another left side miss for Adam. He's had a few of those. Not the putting day he had hoped for so far. That's a couple bad putting performances from Adam in a row. Going to have to figure that out. Typically just stripe in the pole. >> Yeah, Ganon heating up. He is now four down through 10. Maybe he gets the five under. It's tied for Well, he's going to be one back still, but he's on pace. >> Yeah, you imagine Ricky and Eagle are probably birdieing this. >> Yeah. 47 birdies. 44% of the field. >> Yeah, this I mean hole 11, it's going to play easier than that one or harder. >> Oh, this is much more difficult. Oh, yeah. >> 383 is a shot shaping hole. You have to hit really tight gap left to right hillside right here helps. You got out of bounds that wraps around the entire basket. But yeah, you're going to want to play play this overstable to midstability with a little Annie through the left gap is what all these guys are going to try to do. >> This hole is actually playing overpar. >> Really? >> Mhm. 05 AB. That is a nice looking drive, but it's moving right. Hangs on in the circle. >> You go sidearm at this. >> Mhm. Yeah. My entire group. >> Really? >> Yeah. I thought I was being innovative, but entire group on forehand. >> You all do good. >> I want OB. We had two birdies, two bogeies. >> Okay. Lucky ducky. >> You take that. >> Yes. The alternative is a double penalty. OB and your way back. That looks like the right stability for Adam. This is looking beautiful. >> Oh, that is so good, buddy. I don't think he's going to miss that one. And find himself under par once again. Simon for another deep bid and finally gets it online. This time the height is just the issue. Bell to get to six. Yes. Left side. Count it. Oops. Never high enough. Oh my goodness. Now, it wasn't a gimme putt, but it always gives me a little extra anxiety when it's heading towards that left side. Tough one. >> Yeah. 652 just straight down this pipe. I'm You want it to fly 325 ft and then barely drift to the left from then. From there, you're most likely going to be scrambling. Even if you hit the gap, you're going to have something in your way. going to have to be a standstill putter approach or sidearm something like that. But the main objective is hit the initial gap pretty please otherwise it's a bogey. Ricky Weissaki he's 600. He is thrown into the sign. That is not good. >> Now Ricky is the exception typically. >> Okay. No. What on earth is he going to do to save par from those two shots? And then another one. >> What the heck is he going to do to save par from those three shots? I mean, this guy is just the absolute king of this. The absolute king of this. Bad shot. Bad shot. Bad shot. Good shot. par on the hardest hole in the course. Pretty much >> it is it is definitely the hardest hole in the course playing over half stroke above par. >> AB Yeah. I mean >> kick. >> Yeah. Yes, it is. How did Ricky hit the sign? >> I don't know. But where Adam is, he went left. Luckily Ricky could hang out and try a sidearm turnover. Adam's not going to have that option. >> Oh, is there's a there must be an another round signed closer to the FBOT. >> Yes. >> Okay. I was like looking at the one that's 5 ft off the T- box. >> Okay, that makes a lot more sense. >> Simon throws a good shot, but it's turning over >> and that's what's tough. Yeah. >> Like, see what I mean? Like, you want it drifting, but you also want to play a little turn to stay away from the trees on the left. AB with that really good kick out to the right. >> Oh man, >> that's >> Yeah, >> that's awesome. >> A+ effort. >> Should be able to save par from there. That's where that's where the really good drives end up. >> And he stays in the middle. That's the main thing. >> Distance was really important, but the staying in the middle is huge. Again trying a long lay down forehand roller. And Ganon with those two time extensions early in the round has got to be a little bit quicker than he normally is on these more challenging approach shots. >> Yeah. Simon the last one standing with all with everything intact. He can just do whatever he wants with his time. >> Mhm. That's double bogey in play. >> And that that's what I'm saying. This whole you can throw a great drive and one bad shot would just put you off to the side like Ganon here. No chance to save the par anymore. Nope. >> Well, Simon having to go forehand roller. >> Yeah, just a dime off the tea. >> Yep. This is a little bit overcut. But you know what? Par plays. You're happy with the par on 12. Good recovery shot. It will just be a single bogey for Ganon. And what on earth is Adam looking at? The forehand roller. He's going to need to get magical to save the bogey. Nice little bounce there. That's an awesome par save. Simon with an outside chance for the birdie. This would take some serious power. What an effort. All over the bucket today. Adam just goes under, goes back to even, goes over, goes back under par. Now the double bogey. He's going to go back to overpar. Up and down round thus far for Mr. Hamus. AB minimizing mistakes, saving a part. I mean, just unreal to hit an early tree on 12 and walk away with anything but bow gear above. Brand new green complex here on hole 13. 410 ft now. Probably about the same distance, honestly. They just built a nice little motorbike ramp right here. Little jumper. >> Oh, that would actually be sick, >> right? And then they put a bucket up top. Really great redesign here of the green. You have hazard that wraps all the way around as well. And short. You can see up there on the right the way that that Hazard kind of makes a pawn in front of the bucket. So that's about I'd say 45 short of the of the bucket. >> AB going forehand. Big forehand up the hill at 410. That's in the hazard and comes up short. Don't love this for Simon. That's going to be in the hazard as well, I'd imagine. So, >> yeah, you can see the dark line that kind of creates that hazard line. Nice visual for us. Not much to go off of for Canon's PD2. Turns it over, but there's a lot of room on the right. And this is going to get back to >> Yeah, pretty good. >> It's pin high, if not long. >> Yeah. Surprised these guys aren't just playing the wide hiser. I'm be honest. >> Yeah, me too. Yeah, me too. >> Like this. >> Mhm. >> This seems like a stock shot. I >> think I just saw a bald eagle in the background, too, as Adam's drive was coming out of the hand. There's a couple of those flying around the green on 18 today. >> Saw that earlier today. Simon will well he hopefully will take the bogey but that layup gets a little bit long on him. AB is trying to save the par and he will not >> birdie for Ganon. So he cancels out the bogey on the 12th with a nice birdie putt and drive here on the 13th. And Adam's putting wos are just really costing him. Stay in there, little fella. >> Yeah, seriously. Do you know what over a million dollars in disc look like? Well, MVP wants to give them away to schools. That's right. MVP is looking to give away 100,000 recycled neutron glitches to 4,000 schools. That's crazy. But we need your help to get the word out. Help MVP grow the sport. Talk to your local schools and go to MVP's website for more information. >> Really cool thing. >> Yep. >> MVP is doing right there. Hats off to him. >> Hole 14. Big par four. Awesome hole. mandatory about halfway up the hole as you get to the landing zone and just jut right back towards where you teed off from. Probably only a 290 foot shot from the tea, but it plays 859 ft. It's a great par4. Really nothing like it that I can think of. >> Yeah, I can think of wooded holes that wrap around, but they don't give you the height to do whatever you want, you know, second shot, >> right? >> Ganon hold. Does he get away with it? No. Yeah, >> kind of. Yeah, kind of. Actually, you're right. >> I don't know if he can go home from there. I I think that mandatory is going to be problemsome, but better than being in the trees on the right. This one's hugging over there as well. Kind of >> kind of great kick for him, too. >> Seriously, you get pulled into those woods, you got the mandatory to still deal with. You really can't get into position to even save the par. It's kind of early doom. >> Maybe hits the branch, tickles it, takes some speed off. That's going to be asking a lot from there. >> Mhm. See if Simon can get this one right. If so, MVP will be giving away a million dollars in R2 glitches. But they need your help. And >> even if he doesn't get it right, MVP will still be doing that. And >> that's not right. He's going to be tight. Yeah. >> Has to go backhand from there. >> Yep. >> And that is tricky. We saw Matt do it last year. >> Hugging that tight to the mandatory with height. And you see AB interested in the result because he has a very similar throw coming up. Ganon staying on the edge of that left side OB line maybe perhaps higher. Yeah, much higher. >> This is not This isn't This is not good. >> Early right OB. >> Yeah, you just can't give it that much height without getting it going towards that tree. And >> look at the flags. I mean, they're ripping left to right there. If you give it that much height, it's going to sail. Wow, that came close to the OB2. Nice dig. >> How much distance is left? I mean, that's outside C1 by quite a ways, but >> is this the second hardest hole? >> That's a good question. It is the second hardest hole. >> And I am good. This is going a thousand miles out of bounds. And will million dollars of R2 glitches. Now that's that is certainly a very lucky break. >> And you can see Ganon is standing there on the OB line. Some cool action on the green there like sped up, jumped up. Adam so well short having to lay that one up for the par. AB is going to try to avoid going back to back bogeies. I almost hit Gon's disc. >> That'd be fun. Hit it. Rolls in the water. >> Your yours goes in. >> He can replace it, but he can't cuz he can't find it. >> Oh, no. No, no. >> Safe though. >> Yeah, >> it's a bad putt. Loss disc. And then what do you do? >> I've lost track of the scenario. >> Yeah, >> me too. Kind of. >> AB a really nice comeback putt. >> Goodness. AB had everything going. Six under last three holes. Two up. Yeah, tough hole. 16 birdies out of the 108 field. Half the field with par, but then that leaves quite a bit for the bogey and worse heading into 15. Fantastic par three. Another sub 300 ft par three that really makes you think. Obviously you see the water here. All out of bounds goes to a drop zone, which is a death putt from 70 ft back downhill with nothing slowing it down. That would be a double bogey instantly. Oh, or just put it close and get yourself a birdie. >> And back here with Ricky. >> Oh my gosh. >> Could you imagine? That was so close. Oh my goodness. >> Let's stay here with Eagle. That's not going to be an easy putt. Don't tell Eagle. >> I love his putt when it's on. >> That flight's really nice. I still think like you like you said when it's on I I still think I'd take Eagle's putt in any scenario just because the the nose angle is perfect in the wind, in the calm, you name it. >> I thought he had the putt of the year last year and at the Cascade Challenge, man, I won't ever forget that where he threw it up to the moon. >> Yes. Yeah. On the that 450 foot par three. >> Yep. >> It went out of the frame high spin putt. Yeah. Never seen anything like it. >> Never. >> Yeah. That was cool. Nice shot for Ganon. This is looking good for Adam. There's enough trees in the green that you're never quite sure you can catch the base, roll back in the water, but that is on the green. >> Then you got to go to the drop zone, which is bummer. You could hit the target and go to the drop zone. >> Seriously, >> you could hit the tree and go on the drink >> and go to the drop zone. So many different ways to go to the drop zone. >> Look, why is that guy smiling? See that guy? Just >> just happy to be there. It's a beautiful day. It's a beautiful day. >> Or he's thinking I'm going to get me a Simon discs right when he turns the corner. >> Is this Gollum over there? Might just think about that his precious. I guess that's possible. >> Look at this. Look at this putt. >> Good effort, but man, that is that not a frightening putt? Huh. We have some excellent putters on our card and it has not been an excellent putting day, I would say, overall. >> Yeah, I agree with you. >> There have been some excellent putts, >> mostly from this guy. >> But AB's made some nice putts. Some of them have been for bogey. >> Yeah, like couple great comebackers. >> But yeah, overall I would say not the best. 16. This is a brutal par five. What on earth do you have to do to break this hole? >> Throw it to here. >> Oh, okay. Okay. If you throw it to there, you can actually go over the top. I've seen it done by a few people. Uh Ricky's one of them. He The way that kid talks about playing a hole is hilarious to me. We were sitting it out uh on the couch earlier today and he says, "Yeah, yeah, I just like throwing it over the You should try it. Just throw it over the tops of the trees. Like stall it in there." And I'm like, "What are you talking about? Like, who do you think you're talking to? >> Like, yeah, just get to the top of the hill and you can just stall it over the trees and then I I always have a pup for eagle and and you would too. And I'm like, >> no. Oh, Calvin throws it to the top of the Look at the height on this second. This is a shot of the year, I think. Uh, I saw the replay of this. Watch where this ends up because we're not going to be able to see a catch cam here. How about that? No way, dude. What? >> How about that? >> Oh my word. >> We're staying with Calvin as well. If we go home after this commentary and he's like, "Yeah, just throw it to the top and then just rip it low and you can get all the way there, Paul." >> Every time, >> that's a really good shot there. >> Yeah. I mean, Ganon's going to be able to go low or over the top. It's up to him. Depends on who he's getting advice from. This is heading towards OB. >> Finds it. That's a bummer. >> Does it go OB? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. There's the spotter. Yeah. >> Yeah. The line kind of goes if you're short, it comes in tighter. >> I'm aware. Don't ask me how I know. Okay. >> This is nice. AB would like to have a bit more distance. I think it's going to be slightly up before it goes down from where that landed. And you want to be able to just throw that line drive >> and it takes his legs away >> running up there. >> Oh no, Simon. >> Oh, that is early. And he's just saying, "Yeah, I'm just Oh, is this a FPO progression or is that >> Yeah. >> Okay. Cuz that's Yeah, >> that's a nice throw. Yeah. I didn't realize that you could do that. Oh, he was just barely out of bounds. >> Or he just said it there. I don't know. >> That's almost identical to what I had. So that I I relate to what he's going through. It's a scary next shot. Honestly, it's a little bit of a headwind and you're going forehand over OB for so long that if you mess it up, you're you get one foot of advancement and you're throwing your fifth shot. This is far, folks. >> Yeah, I think he's pulling the Rick. Let's crash the trees. >> Just a jump putt for the easy birdie coming up again. Trying to get past the trees. That's early. It's going to be kind of AB land. Oh, >> yeah. Yeah, I think he likes it. >> Yeah, should be get up and down from there. This would be a fantastic up and down. >> Could you imagine? >> Yeah. Well, Calvin got up and down from 500 ft back, so it's possible. This is drifting on him, though. Could be a tough par now. Really tough par for Adam as well. Okay. Yeah. 44 feet and just a jump putt away for Ganon. This would be to get him. Well, if it goes in, it'd be seven. But yeah, just laying up to get to six under the skip shot. >> Steady as she goes. Simon forpar from deep C2 and he'll drop another stroke. Just really had things going early and he's going to be finding himself just at one under par now. needs it in the worst way. >> Yeah. And gets it. What a par save. >> Living on that left side today, man. >> Yeah, you could see he wasn't convinced. He He didn't start walking till that thing rattled around the cage. Slightly sketchy bogey putt for Simon. Hole 17. An interesting par4. Short and technical at 512 ft. Very specific landing zone that actually favors kind of like a putter forehand roller, maybe a driver forehand roller, maybe a backhand skip shot. From there, you have this high gap and you also have an inside line that work well for the forehands, but it's uh it's pretty snaky little hole. Doesn't allow you to get off the course and really save your birdie or your par. This seems a little bit offline. Yeah, Rick's in a tough spot. just crashes the boran roller through everything. He's an animal, man. Oh, that animal is a raptor. That was incredible. Crazy. Just figuring it out. Oh, big drive for Canon. >> Going to be tricky. Got to be tricky, right? >> Otherwise, everyone would do it. Yeah, I think that's I think it's tricky. I'm with you. >> This thing's got to be cutting early. That looked like a really quick flip. >> Uhhuh. Quick flip. Fast disc. Usually hard to control. That seems pretty controlled for Adam. Does that get far enough for the landing zone that I don't know? >> Seam pulled for Simon, but the end it's going to be fairway. Tricky shot coming. >> Yeah, it was a quick flip here. He's got a shot though. Kind of like what Ricky had, but he's got to get lucky though. That's not good. Oh boy. Oh boy. It's a putt. That big tree around the corner is inside circle two. Nice. >> Yeah, well done. >> Tough thing to stand with your back to the basket and navigate uphill and hold turn and hit gaps. Really well done. Cannon comes up short. Going to be 50 feet. Maybe a little closer. AB's trying to jump putt this up to the pin. You think? Was that like a driver or a mid-range or something? >> Yeah, I think so. >> Creative play. And Ganon from deep. Just sling it. Just sling that thing in there, dude. >> Wow. Just a cliff behind it. Germ, do you know that? >> I do. I do. And that doesn't take the chains off the basket and Ganon makes that putt. That is just harded with nose down right on the pole. Very well done for Simon to get the birdie. Oh no. Sliding in the bad direction for just haven't seen him do that lately. uh >> Anthony >> last couple tournaments he's really been focused and playing well but obviously the early season stuff like you know some of the things that we're talking about while he was trying to win the major in Lynchber maybe that's what's been happening just kind of losing a little bit of focus here and there last hole 924 ft par five get over the ridge there kind of an island green here if you're normal you pitch to the top pitch it to that little Yeah. >> Island at the bottom right there where it bows out and then throw it over to the target. >> All right, we got Cover. >> Yeah, he can give us a nice little breakdown here. >> Cole's got the distance to get there in two, but at 10 under, he's scorching. Look at this back nine. Paul just playing a chip shot to the landing zone and does well. That's the landing zone trying to explain to you all at home. And then from there, give it a little height. >> Asking for the distance to be right. And the distance is right. It's even on the right side of the basket with a tailwind today. Just a tap in now. 11 under Cole Redan. Two bogeies on the front nine. And Zack Nash, that's where his drive was. Going big second shot and hitting the green. The bullseye pretty much. And this is to go six down in the final five holes. What an eagle. Another check in here. We got Calvin Heimberg. >> Big back up on 18 today. >> Now hold on a second. Look. Exactly. Look at this drive going huge and getting through everything. Paul, this would be go six down in the final four. I don't see it. >> Oh, it's a left. Deep and left. Ah, >> dang. That would have been cool, though. And how to save the birdie. No. Brutal. I mean, honestly, par's not a bad score on 18, but not that way. Now we get back with our card. Ricky, keep in turn. Oh, I'm sorry. Ricky's not even on our card. What am I talking about? It feels like it. We've seen him play so much. >> You can go home from there as well if you wanted. But >> yeah, that's such a small landing zone from back there. To see people go for it is it's really impressive. If he gets up and down, he will tie Cole Redan's pace at 11. Nearly throws it in for Eagle. Speaking of Eagle McMahon starting his day with one of those and we welcome you back in three in a row. Fantastic putt on the last hole. I sometimes worry about how far these guys throw. >> Oh, and that's why I worry about it. Remember AB going way past >> Gon has that distance. So does this guy. >> I'm I'm really really freaked out right now because ABS when he went OB long last year, we were losing it because of how hard it was. Maybe it was a win situation. Ganon didn't even throw that thing in it when it would be long. It just seemed like there was no effort there. What the heck was that? That's going to be out of bounds left. I think Oh, pushing it to the back edge of the inbounds area is Adam Hamus. I thought there was no chance. That angle got me. G got me and a really nice throw from AB. Conservative and just perfect. Great shot. And he'll have out. Yeah. >> Not looking like he throw it hard. >> Seriously, man. Oh my goodness. >> Going high. I don't love that play at all. >> Mm- >> That's not good from there. >> I mean, we saw Ricky go wide and low and Cole go wide and low. Surprised Simon. Yeah, he does not have the layup in his eyes. >> This is heading OB long. No, it's pin high safe. gets paid off for the aggressive play. He'll have a look for Eagle. More than likely an easy birdie. And you don't throw it this far off the tea to lay up. AB going for it. >> I like it. Slow down. >> Slow down. That's OB long. >> Brutal. Such a good shot. >> Tapping for birdie coming. But yes, it was a really nice throw. the classic out of bounds birdie. >> I I really just I I'm going to I'm going to pull this up tomorrow once we post this and I'm going to watch that drive again. I'm Your timing can't be so good that you're just throwing it that soft and going OB on this hole. That is That is obnoxious. I think you can't. You know, he's got those long limbs, too. I wonder how wide his wingspan is. >> Seems like it's >> My guess Oh, Simon can't even see it with the sun. My guess is at least 68 to 69. >> Wow. cuz I think it's a wider wingspan than mine and I'm about 6'8 and he's a little taller than me. >> So AB's going to be right there in the mix still with the five under. >> Yeah, totally. >> Sneaks onto the lead card it looks like. Possibly. >> Yep. Stole that last spot. >> And Adam a round to be forgotten. >> Yeah. 10 back after one in a three round event is not what you're looking for. >> Simon closes out. >> He'll actually be 11 back cuz there's a couple players at 11 under. Yeah. >> Yep. >> Yeah. Simon was close. Ran into some trouble on the back there. Kind of in a row, but yeah, we got a sweet card. Dear, Ricky, Cole, Heimberg, Burr, >> slew of people run trying to run them down. All proven winners. >> Yeah. Again, we got a couple people running away though. 11 under is six strokes ahead of you know what? Seventh place. >> Yeah, >> that's that's rare. >> Yeah, it's those are incredible rounds. I'm going to look up the round rating cuz those are scorching. No, only 1070. Yeah, I'm kind of surprised they weren't rated higher to be honest with you. But yeah, this place is awesome. I mean, we talked about this in the front nine, but this place is for me top five course on tour. Maybe it lands in the top five indis golf courses that I played. Wow. I've played two tracks. I played two two times now. I played our practice round, played the tournament round today, and I just think it's that good. I think that when I'm looking for a good design, I'm looking for a course that has it all. >> High praise. >> It is. I just I it just stands out as a course that I want to play both in tournament setting and in casual setting. >> Nice. And that's that's something that's rare to do. Some of those really good tournament courses are courses you'd never see me on a Tuesday, >> right? But this is a place that if there were league at Bad Rock and I lived in the Kansas City area, a lot of disc golf choices, I' I'd be you could see me up here. I don't know. >> Maybe you guys will find him out there on the course one day. >> Long way from home. Well, that's going to do it for round one of three. We'll see you guys tomorrow for Moving Day Saturday. See you tomorrow.
